Can of drink purchased at the bar was dirty around the top. Was not recognised for my Accors Loyalty account, had to remind the reception staff (drink voucher). Bar menu quite limited to high carb meals only. Food order was incorrect (ordered salad but burger in a bun arrived). Alcohol free Budwieser 330ml can £3.50! Seems very expensive for an alcohol free canned drink. Room was ok but TV was very small and old compared to most hotels I stay at in the area. Bathroom could do with updating including the shower, towels provided very small compared to most other hotels. Food was average quality but very generous quantity (chicken salad).

Unfortunately the room had a strange smell in it. It was an accessible room. I think it was a damp smell. Breakfast- the service was poor- lack of tea and had to wait ages for it to arrive and I’m still waiting for the toast we ordered.

We booked for a wedding and were told we could do an early check in at 12:00. We arrived at 12:30, with the wedding starting at 13:30. The room was not available and we were informed that they didn’t know when it would be ready. We were offered the disabled toilets to get changed in as the only solution. Unfortunately the toilet was not clean and the floor was wet. This lead to a very unpleasant experience. Definitely not the service we had planned for!

Hotel was adequate, but the stay was spoiled because we booked our bags in early and they were placed in the wrong room. They were only found the next morning. Staff were very apologetic and helpful and they did refund the nights stay.

Only stayed one night to break our journey home after visiting relatives over Christmas. Not being hungry we did not eat in the restaurant but did order sandwich and drinks from the bar, bread for sandwich was quite dry, not usual standard we normally get at the Oak.did not take breakfast as we needed to leave early to get home asap.

We enjoyed our New Year at the Mercure Hotel the evening meal was very good the only small niggle was the time it took between courses l think this was down to the amount of people the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice all in all a very good evening.

We stayed on Christmas Day night after spending the day with family in St Albans. It was really lovely, calm, peaceful and cosy. It was also extremely good value. We checked in at midday to drop off the car. As our room was ready, staff let us in early to drop off our bags. I had messed up the online booking and booked for one person instead if two. But when I called the hotel, they remedied this quickly without any fuss. Breakfast was nice. My partner had kippers a special treat! A very pleasant stopover

Just a short stay but found location of hotel to be good and also a great location for future wedding. Room was clean and plenty of space. All electrical equipment worked well. Bathroom was really nice. Would recommend the hotel to others.

Checking in was difficult as the music "Sweet Caroline" from a function was so loud, I couldn't hear the concierge either on the telephone or when he arrived at the counter. Room was a considerable distance away. Children were running up and down the corridors outside our room. The automatic light in the bathroom did not turn off and was on the whole night. Not good for he environment or electricity bills. I ordered a double bed but got twin beds pushed together with 2 single duvets. Not good. I have stayed in very good Mercure hotels on the continent and this experience let down my previously held high opinion of the chain.

Room was clean and good size with everything I needed. Food was good in general. One meal I had took some time to appear (salmon) and had clearly been left for some time before being served - not very appetising and looked a bit mean for the price.

The staff was ok but I was in a room just over reception and the was two partys over the weekend and they had music playing till late I could handle one night but both was to much if I had known these partys was going to be so loud I would have asked to be moved farther away from that part of the hotel

We were provided with a room upgrade which was a nice surprise. The room was spacious and nice, but above all quiet and well away from the main road outside. Despite Christmas parties ongoing on the same floor, nothing was heard. Breakfast was a much better experience since our last visit.

Not the best room in the hotel

The room I was given was not the best, it was room 104, really noisy and next to the smokers area. Could hear people talking outside at quarter to one in the morning. I did not complain as it seemed busy, they had lost my reservation even though I had booked it directly through the hotel via telephone, but they managed to find me a room by juggling a few other bookings around.
