A Disappointing and Unpleasant Stay at Ibis Hotel Lausanne (February 17-21, 2025)

My stay at the Ibis Hotel in Lausanne from February 17th to 21st, 2025, was an incredibly disappointing experience that I would not wish upon any traveler. From the moment I arrived, I was met with subpar conditions and unprofessional service that left me feeling both frustrated and disrespected. Upon entering my room, I immediately noticed that it was below standard—untidy and lacking basic amenities, such as a refrigerator. Given the price I paid, I expected at least a clean and properly maintained space, but this was unfortunately not the case. To make matters worse, I realized that I had inadvertently booked and paid for a room for two people when I was the only guest. When I approached the receptionist to inquire about a possible adjustment, he politely checked and confirmed that indeed, I had paid for two persons. He explained that while the cost of the room itself would remain unchanged, I could potentially receive a refund for the additional taxes and breakfast charges. His response was fair, and I understood his explanation. However, he mentioned that he needed to consult with the manager before proceeding with any refund. What followed was an appalling display of unprofessionalism. The so-called manager arrived and was immediately confrontational, hurling insults at me and aggressively blaming me for the situation. Instead of addressing my concerns professionally, he rudely dismissed my request and insisted that nothing could be done. When I stood my ground and told him that i will file a complaint, he reluctantly refunded the tax but refused to handle the breakfast refund, stating that I needed to request it from Booking.com directly since my payment was made through them. His behavior was not only dismissive but also outright disrespectful. When I raised my concerns about the lack of a refrigerator—especially since I needed to store my medication for my four-night stay—he merely laughed at me, mockingly offering to keep my medication in his own refrigerator. To my shock, he even made racist remarks, making the entire interaction even more distressing. Later that night, I attempted to contact both local and international Booking.com customer service hotlines for assistance, but my calls were unsuccessful. I left a note detailing my concerns and was relieved to receive a call the next day from a Booking.com customer service agent in Singapore. The agent was understanding and assured me that my request for a breakfast refund was reasonable, but that it required confirmation from the hotel. However, on the day I checked out, the hotel’s reception denied any knowledge of my complaint. When Booking.com later followed up with them, I was informed that the hotel had outrightly refused to issue any refunds without providing a valid reason. This lack of accountability further solidified my impression of the hotel’s poor customer service and disregard for guest satisfaction. All in all, despite Switzerland’s high accommodation costs, this particular hotel was overpriced for the quality of service provided. The room was unclean, the breakfast was below standard, and the reception staff—particularly the manager—was unprofessional, confrontational, and racist. I would strongly advise against staying at this establishment, as my experience was nothing short of a nightmare
