Beautiful building and great situation, but room refurbishment needed!

Staff were all friendly and efficient. The hotel is in a great spot and is a prominent landmark in the town. I have stayed before, but sadly found that now, the bedrooms (although a good size) are in dire need of refurbishment. My room was dull, dark and unwelcoming. Breakfast was good, but the dinner menu in the restaurant needs to change from pub like to 4* hotel standard. Food provided was of a decent standard however.

Good place'. Warm, clean, comfortable. Helpful staff. More than adequate breakfast

As above. Nothing to add, really

The room was tired and need of attention, I was particularly concerned by the thick layers of dirt/dust on windowsill, skirting boards and under the lamps. I raised this with reception but they did not get housekeeping to attend to it during our 2 night stay. Bins in the car park were overflowing during the stay also.

Potentially Beautiful - but Tired and in need of Refurbishment

This is one of the most striking building in Stratford and I have stayed here in the past. The entrance is still ok, but my bedroom (whilst large) was in dire need of refurbishment. To compete with other properties in the town, this is essential. Staff were all lovely - polite, friendly and efficient. The restaurant dinner menu needs update from pub-like style to a 4*hotel. Breakfast was good.

Great location and beautiful looking, quirky old building

Wonderful location, but needs investment and more staff to reach pre-covid standards

You must have had a terrible time over the last two years, but unfortunately it shows. Little things like no water in the bedroom fridge and no pillow case on the second pillow; or bigger such as very poor stocking of the bar - and no hot drinks available late in the evening. Also, it seems that the available seating in the lounges has been reduced: we used to sit in a large (ten or eleven) party in the main hall, which was such a feature of previous visits. We did appreciate your lovely receptionist, Maria, who is a star. I think, as the premier hotel in Stratford, the Shakespeare well deserves more investment from Accor.

Not what it used to be

I've been staying at the Stratford Mercure for many years (since the 2000s) on family visits with my parents and others. It's a lovely hotel, full of historic charm and in a fabulous location. Post-Covid things are same way off what they used to be. It's understandable that the financial impact of the last two years means things can't just bounce back, but right now it feels like you're paying the same room rates for a notably inferior experience. We've stayed two times post-Covid now, October 2021 and April 2022 and on both cases the very likeable Maria has been the main person on the desk and it almost seems as if she's running the place single-handed a lot of the time. Things that used to be better: free water in room on arrival; sufficient shower gel etc. in both room (we had to ask for more at reception); second pillow with a pillow case (not even added after seen by cleaning staff after first night of use); bar in sitting area so that you don't have to walk a long way to a poorly stocked bar in the restaurant area. There is also a very visible need to spruce the place up, it's looking quite sorry in places. We will be staying again in September 2022 and hope to see improvements. If not, afraid to stay it will be the last time.

Well located..

We came to stay while attending an RSC Shakespeare event, and always enjoy staying with you. The reception staff were always welcoming, and we were pleased with our room as it was very sunny and view of a park. Our special requirements were met as regards ease of access, which was a great help. My only slight disappointment was that I has registered as needing gluten free breakfast in advance, leaving time to get in particular products, but only gluten free bread was available, no rolls or croissants or sweet snacks. when we stayed at the Radisson Park in Northampton last year, the kitchen were outstanding with their food treats for me, as I had the same choice as everyone else, but gluten free! I am a coeliac, so it is important.

A very comfortable & enjoyable stay.

On arrival the reception staff were very helpful when they couldn't give me a room with a walk-in shower which I had requested when booking. After one night in a room with an ordinary bathroom I was moved to one with a walk-in shower which was much appreciated. This was arranged with courtesy by the staff & the minimum inconvenience on my part.

Well located, good base for Stratford

Spent 3 nights doing the Shakespeare highlights. Hotel was convenient for theatre, attractions, dining, & shopping. We had a few hiccups with service however.

Good hotel but breakfast extremely poor

Hotel comfortable and pleasant. Staff attentive, helpful and courteous. However, the breakfast was of such poor standard and quality that my sister and I left the breakfast room still hungry. Yogurts and fruits were adequate. Reasonable range of cereals (which we don't eat). Very limited cheese and meat selection. Hot food selection quality was poor and the oil/fat used for cooking the eggs, bacon and sausages overwhelmed the take of the foodstuffs making them inedible. Grilled tomatoes were semi raw. Scrambled eggs were lumpy and unappetizing.. As we were unable to eat our cooked breakfast we decided we'd fill up on toast and muffins. However, the sliced bread was cheap quality and tasted of salt and product giving it a rancid flavour. The little chocolate muffins were leaden in texture and no pleasure to eat. The croissants were nice and my sister had one of those. We both felt that we had wasted our money having breakfast at the hotel. Neither of us would recommend our friends have breakfast at the hotel when staying there. Very, very disappointing. We did explain this to Reception but of course they could do nothing other than say raise our complaint through this survey, which, being anonymous gives us little satisfaction.

Excellent customer care from staff. Clean rooms and great facilities.

Unfortunately the Shakespeare birthday celebrations, and all the road closures, spoiled the whole visit, especially I have a crippled leg.

Once we managed to get to the hotel, the stay was fine - up to the usual standard, but the road closures on both Saturday and Sunday were a nightmare , and I would point out that no pre-warning was provided by the hotel. This seems below standard. I would also say that you should reopen the old bar on the left of the entrance. Getting late night drinks is not easy, and that is also below the expected standard.

The Mercury Stratford Upon Avon is situated centrally and is an ideal base for exploring Stratford. The hotel offers parking however we did not use this facility and parked a short distance away from the hotel. The hotel was quiet and lovely place to stay . Possibly the rooms would benefit from an upgrade but this certainly did not put any dampener on our visit.

Excellent service … well looked after.

A two night theatre stop to enjoy a couple of RSC productions. Great service, appetising breakfasts and all the quirkiness of a “Shakespearean Hotel” not far from the theatre.

Perfectly situated. Arriving before lunchtime managed a parking space

We did not eat at the hotel except breakfast which was very nice. However the staff were Extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It is situated 150 yards from the theatre. And it is in the centre Stratford-upon-Avon with some excellent shops around. The only thing we found slightly irritating was that the bit where a bit hard in our room. But I did sleep well!
