Booked at Albrighton hall for Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day and it did not disappoint. Such attentive service from Alex and his team. Portion sizes were perfect with extra veg and gravy being brought out with mains. The puddings were so delicious, we couldn’t decide which one to have so shared all three between us

Another lovely stay. Warmly welcomed as returning guests by Tom who is always very helpful and friendly and always remembers us when we arrive. Stayed in the other Thomas Ireland suite this time and it was lovely. We still love the Romeo & Juliet suite the most though!) We will return soon. Thank you.

I booked this trip as a spa weekend with my partner for a mini break but there were a lot of factors that didn’t live up to expectations. The good: 1. The room was clean and well presented 2. Easy to find the location and close to Shrewsbury 3. Enjoyed the massage 4. The food at dinner was really tasty even though it took a while to arrive (the manager was v. Apologetic) 4. Breakfast was great The bad 1. When we arrived at reception we were almost accused of not having a booking until the receptionist reentered my name. 2. Once we’d checked into the room, we went to reception to enquire about ordering afternoon tea, which is advertised at the hotel (they even have a room for it). We were told to walk to the other end of the hotel to enquire at the spa (no idea why). The guy on reception in the spa/ gym then said we had to book 48 hours in advance as if this would be common knowledge. There is no indication this on the website, the leaflet with our key card or the card in the hotel room and to be honest really annoyed me as this was one of the things I was looking forward to over the weekend. I’m greedy, what can I say! It seems crazy from a commercial perspective that we spent £25 in the bar but no one would upsell an afternoon tea at £17 pp. 3. We went to the bar area and asked when the restaurant opened. The waiter again had an attitude like he just couldn’t be bothered and was quite snappy, again for absolutely no reason. He also took an age to serve us and was more interested in cleaning glasses than serving. I have worked in bars and understand this has to be done, but serving customers has to come first. 4. Small things like half the spa facilities weren’t open, the floor in the ladies changing room was dirty, the bags for removing wet items were empty, the cups were missing from the coffee machine and in the gym. The coffee machine only takes a £1 coin which I understand is likely because it doubles as a health club but this feels a bit miserly if you’re a guest. 5. We went for dinner at 8pm, ordered around 8.10 and didn’t eat the starter until 8.50. The mains came at around 9.30. The manager came and apologised as a member of staff had been taken to hospital. Of course, this can’t be helped! But a small word from the staff to explain would have been helpful. The food was super tasty. The manager offered to remove the drinks from our bill (great!) but we were presented with them on a bill when we checked out. The receptionist did not charge us for these though. Overall, two main bits of feedback are 1. Staff could do with improved customer service training - if someone isn’t a ‘people person’, don’t put them in a customer facing role. 2. Make service availability clear - there seems to be no reason not to upsell a service like afternoon tea and certainly not to have to give 48 hours’ notice. 3. Improve processes to ensure a higher standard of service throughout the facilities.
