Fabulous afternoon tea

TripAdvisor rating 5.0/5

Gaden83 Friends getaway - TripAdvisor review

We stopped by at this hotel for afternoon tea. On arrival we were given a warm welcome by the team, who promptly took our coats & escorted us through to the bar area. Everything was clean & tidy & presented to a high standard. We were offered drinks & given the menu for afternoon tea without having to prompt anyone which is a refreshing change in this day & age. We were left to enjoy our drinks & relax before being approached by Kemal. What an asset to your team, he was so kind to us & exuded warmth & friendliness. After chatting for a while we had lost track of time, so Kemal escorted us to the drawing room. Within moments our orders for tea & coffee were taken & then the food arrived. All I could say was wow! Everything was presented beautifully & you could tell it was freshly made. The sandwiches had nice, soft bread & sumptuous fillings. The cakes were light & well cooked & the flavours were nicely balanced. Next up the main event, the scones. They were served warm from the oven & were beautifully fluffy & served with plenty of jam & cream. The whole experience was amazing. Kemal looked after us very well & I must also give special mention to Jardel who served us in the drawing room. Such a polite person & couldn’t do enough for us, you are very lucky to have him on your team.

Dear Gaden83 Thank you for your review, i am thoroughly glad you enjoyed your afternoon tea with us. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback. I will share certainly share this feedback with Kemal, Jardel and the Chef who will all be delighted. Gemma + The Team

On arriving, clearly the receptionist was not happy. After a long journey and arriving at nearly 3 pm on telling us that the room was not ready she just shrugged her shoulders. Not the greatest greeting from a Mecure employee. We went to the bar to await our room, but after no bar staff in attendance for 10 minutes returned to the same receptionist to enquire if anyone was serving and she informed us someone would serve when they were free to. The Reunion Dinner was Cypress orientated and we could not speak more highly of this and Sam, plus his staff who served. Unfortunately the "hot" breakfast Sunday morning was cold. In a previous review we mentioned having bath mats for the shower. The first impression really let you down. We have attended this hotel over several years for our Sqn Reunion, and this year was really unsatisfactory.

I booked two nights for myself & my husband in a superior room & a further two superior rooms for one night, one with single occupancy. We stayed in room 15 in the main building which although a pleasant spacious room it was situated at the back of the hotel with deliveries coming & going & staff emptying very noisy bottle trolleys etc, there was also a constant humming from an extractor beneath us. One of my daughters was placed in the farthest room from us in a separate out building very close to the road. Aside from this it was in an appalling state of disrepair in fact it was in a shocking state. I cannot understand why you would put my daughter & her partner next door to us & put my daughter who was alone so far away. Can I suggest you at least offer a refund for this disgusting excuse for a superior room. Our bill amounted to £620.90.

Comfortable stay but poor staffing

Booked an overnight spa stay. Late afternoon, on arrival the bar was busy and only one member of staff to both serve and deliver food. Table booked in restaurant for 7.45, again the restaurant was busy and appeared well staffed but I had to attract attention for someone to take our drinks order. The meal was however delicious and served hot. On visiting the bar after we found again it was busy and the hot drinks machine was broken so no coffee!! The next day was our spa 'day'. We waited in the spa reception area for several minutes when eventually we were addressed. It seemed bizarre that there was no one around. There was only the one assistant in the spa that day of which i wasn't advised on when booking. No refreshments, gowns or slippers were offered to myself and my sister. One of us had to wait 30 mins for 'our turn'. For an express massage there was a lot of huffing and puffing coming from the therapist whom on finishing disappeared never to be seen again! I waited at the spa desk when a pool attendant advised me where to go for the pool and gave me a towel. The pool was cold, the jacuzzi, steam room weren't working so we left very disappointed to change and go to the bar for lunch before leaving. Again there was only 1 member of staff, drinks machine still broken and the coffee in prepared flasks was luke warm. I was grateful the lunch came and was delicious!! I will be reluctant to revisit.
