Our room was in a terrible state of repair. No heating. Sink blocked. View over the bins which were emptied at 5 am each morning. Stained carpet. Chipped furniture. Just terrible. Not to mention the room key cards that’s constantly needed re programming.

The bedroom carpet was dirty, clearly not hoovered for a long time. The fridge was dirty and mouldy. The wall behind the bed with a fabric wallpaper was covered in thick dust. The toilet was dirty. The kettle lid was broken. The carpet in the lobby, corridors and stairs needed hoovering.

My mother and I enjoyed our stay, the staff were lovely and very helpful. Unfortunately our room was a bit dirty round the shower door and there was dust around the kettle area. And the Hotel does look like it needs updating. But a great location

We have stayed in this hotel on a number of previous occasions. We had hoped that the cleanliness of the hotel and in particular, the guests bedrooms, would have improved,having raised the issue before. How wrong ! The standard has deteriorated even more.The sealant around the bath is cracked and black with mould. The lounge chair is filthy, stained arms and very dusty. We had to move a bed to recovery a fallen item, the carpet under the bed appeared to have not been vacuumed for some considerable time, dust balls and bits of food. On the second day of our stay we returned to our room in afternoon, to find that it had not been serviced, in the ensuing discussion with reception, we were shown a small notice, that was not clearly visible when registering, that stated " room cleaning required booking in advance and were cleaned on the 3rd day of stay". Appalling service for a room costing over £136 for a twin room (Loyalty club member) We also booked a table in the restaurant for an evening meal, only to discover that it did not open in evenings despite being advertised. This hotel appears to be poorly managed and does not represent the usual and expected standards of Mecure. The location appears to attract visitors who will leave feeling disappointed, may having paid quite a high cost. It is with regret that we cannot recommend this hotel and will not stay again.

Cheeky Groupon night away

Anniversary night away. Friendly staff on arrival. Paid for wine and breakfast deal on groupon… the wine arrived too late and I did have to ask reception twice for it, should’ve been there on arrival really . The heating doesn’t work in room 214 so there’s a portable electric fan heater in the wardrobe which came in handy. Clean enough - although the cleaners had missed a prosecco cork under the desk from previous guests. Breakfast was amazing , friendly staff and cleanliness was good.

On check in I asked about parking and was told it was limited. I said I would like to use the hotel car park. The other receptionist knowing this then offered the last space to the man behind me. The receptionist I was dealing with said “I don’t know why he’s done that”. We booked a table to eat at 7.30pm. We actually got our food at 10 pm. There were no staff available to take our order, serve behind the bar or serve the food. Rebekah did her best but needed support. The food was actually quite poor. The gormet burgers were overcooked and rubbery. Very disappointing. We weren’t offered the dessert menu or coffee and the only time we saw a waitress all night was when we went to find her.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Unlike the lady I spoke to at Accor who I ended up speaking to after joining the scheme was very rude and dismissive of my requirements, despite the fact I told her I had had spoken to the Hotel direct. So lucky for me I had been dealing with the hotel direct and the receptionist there was exceptionally helpful and she arranged for one of the double rooms to be converted into a twin.

The room had everything I needed, was a good size and very clean and I had an absolutely amazing view of the cathedral. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent. It was a shame I was only staying for one night.

The use of the nearby public car park was a little surprising but handy ,but an added expense. Checking in at the hotel is easy and efficiently dealt with. Rooms were clean tidy and comfortable and breakfasts more than adequate. A bonus is the close proximity of many varied eating establishments.

It was a one night stopover before we travelled to join a Portsmouth ferry. The location is in the middle of Winchester right next to the Cathedral. Hotel parking is a challenge for any average sized car but fortunately there is a small car park at the hotel rear. Room was comfortable but very small, a booking error on my part. Staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. A very enjoyable short stay only disappointment was the damp weather.

Bedding was too small for size of bed so impossible to sleep comfortably. Sheets did not tuck in and quilt cover did not fit quilt. Lighting insufficient in bedroom to read. Towels good quality. One armchair well past sell by date. Shower over bath insufficient grab handles so unsafe for elderly. Hotel was clean and good safety precautions for Covid but tired, in need of updating.

Hotel is well located but shabby. Breakfast was poor particularly because of the use of flasks for hot drinks. There is clearly no differentiation between the flasks used for coffee and hot water so the hot water for tea is tainted by coffee making the tea undrinkable. Very surprising and disappointing for what is supposed to be a 4 star hotel.
