I went on for a drink as a break from shopping and I have to say the lady behind the bar Erin who was a credit to your company even though she was on her own and it was very very busy she always made sure I was ok and tended to my needs and had such a great smile. Never once when she was run off her feet did she stop. Thank you so much Erin and Mecure I will use you as my shopping break drink forever more.

Disappointed with the lack of honesty.

Really disappointed! My husband booked us a privilege room so we could over look the cathedral in the evening after visiting the Christmas markets. When we arrived, we were told the computers were down so were unable to check in, we were given a drinks voucher and told to go to the bar. After nearly 45 minutes we went back to the desk to ask about our room as it was 5.30pm by this point. The lady told us we could leave our bags behind reception and head off to the markets if we wished but then the manager came out and informed us we were not on the check in. He told us they had no rooms available and they were fully booked. I feel more disappointed that they were going to let us go out to the markets, have a bite to eat, then return to then find out we had nowhere to stay. Eventually we were allocated a standard room after making some phone calls which over looked the side of the travel lodge, no mini bar, no bath and no luxuries. We stayed in room 123 which has a big crack in the ceiling above the bed, two broken tiles on the bathroom floor and then charged £120 for the pleasure. We will not be returning next year as we could of had the same experience in the travel lodge for half the price. My husband had gone to a lot of effort to give me a surprise night away and it was completely ruined. Honesty is always the best policy and that is what I feel most upset about, I can't believe they were happy for us to leave and come back late evening, knowing they had no room to offer us. Unbelievable!

Great location but very tired rooms and bathrooms.

Great location in the City but my room was very tired and worn and I would not have breakfast there again. A small buffet set out without care or generosity. I don't thinl I would stay there again especially not for £160 naand £35 for breakfast for two was something I definitely wouldn't pay for. Very poor buffet, not usual Mercure standard at all.

Fantastic location

Really enjoyed our stay at the Mercury Hotel Winchester We had 2 rooms one of the newly refurbished rooms which was excellent and the other did need a refurb especially the bath changing to a shower in the bathroom. The only fault we had was the car parking - £15 a car for your own car park is excessive for your guests to pay - happy to pay a nominal £6 a night which is the case in most hotels. Please consider

The Wessex is probably the best located hotel in Winchester but an entire refurbishment of everything is well overdue; the furniture is falling apart, the carpets are threadbare, trip hazards at fire doors in the corridors, skirting boards in dire need of repair/painting
