From a location point of view the hotel could not be better adjacent to cathedral and close to high street, but hotel is ‘tired’ and needs substantial modernisation to bring it up to most other Mercures. Bedroom old fashioned but bed comfortable.

Great location especially view and sounds of Winchester Cathedral bell ringing

Check in was swift and my preference for a window view of Winchester Cathedral was wonderful. When I mentioned I won't be awake for breakfast, the hotel concierge shared a local place for brunch. Unprompted help that was appreciated.

It felt old and dated. The curtains and carpets were dirty.

Upgraded room, lovely view of cathedral. Room comfortable, decor a little tired but fine. Breakfast included and very good. Happy stay- would return.

Hotel is old butmaintained well our room was a bit shabby on first visit but onreturn had adifferent room which was slightly better but location was brilliant for all sites and venues
