We experienced a problem with one of the guests throwing things out the window and shouting in the early hours of the morning finally being removed by the police. It later transpired that it was the same women who was mithering us at the hotel bar a little earlier. We felt that we should have been made aware that you were housing the homeless due to the Covid pandemic and made us aware of this at the time of booking or at least reopened to the public once these unfortunate people had been relocated from your hotel , as paying guests you had a duty of care to inform us. I hope you make other guests aware of this

The staff were very welcoming, we were very disappointed, especially considering we didn’t book a budget room. One of the bedside lamps & the floor lamp were obviously broken and did not work and the socket was faulty. There were obvious tooth paste stains on the carpet which had not been cleaned properly The sockets along the dresser was also faulty, sometimes they worked, some times they didn’t. Soft drinks provided as part of the room - 1 bottle each and no way of opening them as no bottle opener in the room.

Delay in getting into one of our rooms until after 5pm (when check-in was at 2pm). Rooms were spacious, clean & well presented although dated. No air-conditioning only a fan. Nice shower, tea & coffee facilities and a fridge. Great location for seeing sights of Winchester.

Well located, now a terrible hotel now don't bother to unpack.

I really don 't know where to start and am answereing this survey on behalf of myself and my husband, I personally have stayed in the Wessex for over 50 years even when it was a THF and my husband and I always stay at the Wessex when in Winchester (or we did.) I was in the hotel trade for over 20 years employed by the top motor company in the UK, booking executive accommation worldwide, so I do know what to expect and this wasn't it. I shall give you only some examples as there were too many to list. 1) Unable to call hotel on the day of arrival as phone unobtainable. room not available at 13.10 on day of arrival OK not a problen unless your want to use the toilets downstairs that were taped off because of blockage 2) Requested last room at end of 2nd floor because we didn't wanr people on both sides because of the footbal match, given next but last room. 3) Only two light out of 4 working in bathroom one of which flickered. This problem still had not been sorted after 3 nights, although the maintenance man was very helpful. 4) Furniture in room very dated and carpets very dirty at enterance to bathroom. 5) Had to request our room cleaned, because of cross contamination, which I found very annoying as we had stayed a couple weeks previous at The Swan in Lavenham (also a 4* hotel but with excellent service. 6) On returning to our room on our last night stay we were unable to gain access as the key card didn't work. I went to reception and found approx. 25 other people in lines with the same problem, this made us late for our restaurant. Would I now recommend your hotel NO. Would I come back NO. 7) You state your breakfast is fit for a "KING" which king woulf this be? I

Stayed one night in a room facing away from the cathedral. The overall room was clean and tidy. Nothing special and nothing particularly stood out at this hotel. Would only stay because of price, no other reason. Really could be a very nice 4 star hotel but feels like 3 star and looks 2.5 star.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, the staff were very helpful and the room was thoroughly cleaned on request. The hotel needs investment to update and improve it. There was no air conditioning, but a fan was provided. The furnishings were tatty, stained and handles missing from cupboards, the bath panel was cracked. The internal phone was dead and we reported it twice. I was surprised to see the pillows had no protective covers, in view of Covid spread. For such a good location in the town, the hotel falls short of its potential through lack of investment.

We were happy with safety measures and cleaning and we felt safe. We were glad of the cooling fan in our room and enjoyed the views of the cathedral from the bar and dining room.

I appreciate that the room I booked was described as compact, but one thing I did not realize was that the bed was also going to be a very very small double bed. You could describe it as a large single. The room was also in a very poor tied state and the WC in the bathroom refused to flush properly leaving its contents for all to see. The facilities such as the ironing board was broken, and my wife did hurt herself on the metal parts that fell off of it. Overall when compared with other Accor hotels we have stayed in Ibis, Mecure etc. this has to be rated as the worse one. After I complained the hotel did change us to a privilege room which was very kind of them; however the damage in my mind to the reputation of your range of hotels has been done.

The only minor detail missing for me was just ordinary tea bags, plenty of fancy stuff which is not for me. I also appreciate just a phone call down to reception would sort that out. Also at my age, how do I call reception. is it just lift the handpiece or dial a no. but that is small stuff. The breakfast and food goodOh one other thing I dont undestand how to work the air conditioning. I pressed buttons not knowing what I was doing but got it to go off. Overall very good.

Bathroom flooded clearly happened before as carpet had water stains. Toilet didn’t refill. Changed room but it was awful threadbare dirty chair belongs on a skip and blood on pillow. I had to ask for cloths to clean it

Bathroom had little hairs on the floor; which was bad form especially as the hotel was trying to be COVID safe. A tray stacked with dirty, smelly dishes - with a loo brush on TOP of the pile - sat in the corridor for two days. Breakfast offering of a packaged baguette was unsealed when it should have been sealed.

The best asset of this hotel is its location and the view on the cathedral and breakfast variety, although the coffee was not great. This is a pretty old hotel that deserves refurbishing and/or maintenance. Heating was not working and I had to use a mobile heater which is not comfortable at all. Shower water was not warm enough. Large bed is actually two small bed combined and not firm mattress (some people may like it this way though).

Check in was lovely and smooth and after returning from shopping in the city there was a birthday treat waiting in my room. Kian on reception was friendly, welcoming and professional. Can't wait to stay again.

Great location which is why we stay two or three times a year near to family. Unfortunately, most long-time staff seem to have changed, and rooms are now very tired. Our room (Privilege, so in theory the top tier) had a heating system which did not work, a plug-in heater with withstand broken leg, a nightstand socket that was coming off the wall, a bedside lamp that was leaning perilously, and an empty fridge (not restocked on first day despite it being part of the room - not an issue for us as we had paid only for an executive room, and it was restocked the next day).
