just a one night stay as my wife had an early morning meeting in Brisbane and I wanted to relieve her of a very early rise and a one hour drive from the Gold Coast. Our 4 year old added some amusement as well.

I selected the Brisbane Sofitel for a night away from home wen I had some time off work. From previous stays, I was familiar with the convenient location of the Sofitel for public transport access and the comfort of the rooms. On this stay, I appreciated the quality of food and service in the hotel restaurant, as the restaurant is taking fewer people and has a more limited menu, but still provides a fairly wide choice of food and drinks compared with some other restaurants.

Our one night stay in Brisbane was made perfect by the location and excellent service of the staff. Drinks in the bar, dinner and breakfast in the restaurant created a wonderful experience. Every staff member we encountered helped create this perfect stay for us.

Arrived at 2pm at front counter to check in and start our relaxing spa weekend. Room not ready. Waited in foyer for 15 minutes before returning to counter. Room still not ready!? I then noticed a welcome text, sent from hotel at 2pm, saying room ready. Asked counter what’s going on, and I needed to prove the text, reading it aloud. Not a pleasant start. Room old and not clean - mould in bathroom, headboard with stain marks, bedside table covered in dust and carpet covered in white fluff (looked like from towels). Positive was coffee machine and wine in room. Disappointed your staff greet in French ‘bonjour’ yet do not understand any other words when asked a simple phrase “ca va”. Tres bien, merci.

Great Sofitel service as usual, it's a shame how Covid has decimated the hotel business. Normally pre-covid this hotel on a Sat night is so busy.

Having stayed at the Sofitel Brisbane Central on many occasions, I was very disappointed with my last visit. First of all, let me say that I understand there are constraints in every business due to CV-19, however none of these complaints are CV-19 related. From the moment we arrived with our luggage, the escalator leading into the foyer was either switched-off, or not working (first impressions). My wife and I stayed on Level 26 for 3 nights and (after check-in) when we exited the elevator, we noticed that there was a beer bottle sitting next to the window seat (adjacent to the elevator doors) ... it was there when we checked in on the Thursday ... and it was still there when we left on the Sunday. There was also a very long, thick, white thread on the floor outside our bedroom door when we checked in ... that was also there when we checked out (my wife commented on it every time we stepped over it). Obviously, this is a housekeeping issue, but it's often said that "you can do things UP to a Standard, or DOWN to a Price". The reason I've stayed at the Sofitel so many times in the past is that I've always been confident that if I pay the 'price', I can enjoy the 'standard' .... not so in this case. Another disappointment occurred on the Friday night of my stay, I was up doing some work and at around 12:30pm (Saturday morning), I felt like getting some McDonalds from downstairs, so I caught the elevator down to the lobby. Again, the escalators were not working on either of the two levels and additionally the door onto the Train Station Level was locked. With that, I walked back up to reception to see if I could get out, and back in again. The girl I spoke to on reception said that she will see if the night manager could assist. Not only could the night manager not be bothered coming out of the back room (behind reception) to address the situation, but just sent this poor girl back out to (sheepishly) explain that nothing could be done (as it's to do with the rules surrounding CV-19 ... which I know to a certainty is not true) and I would have to go out through the main foyer doors and walk right around the block to get to McDonalds (which as far as I'm concerned comes back to a 'safety issue' at that time of the night). At this point, the young lady on reception offered me some snacks to purchase from the foyer's cafeteria, so instead of getting McDonalds, I ended up with a packet of Crisps and a Coke - not happy about that. At this point, let me just say that the girl on reception was lovely, and I think under the circumstances she did the best she could ... but if I were running a high-end Hotel, then that Night Manager would be sacked so quickly that his (or her) head would 'spin' for demonstrating this type of complacency. Not only that, it shows the rest of the staff that 'it's okay' to have a substandard service mentality ... and it's for this reason alone that I have decided to make this visit our LAST stay at the Sofitel. Added to this, with the escalators constantly not working, the closure of Harlequin Jacks, and the lack of patrons in the bar area on the Friday & Saturday afternoons / evenings, I just felt that the overall 'energy' of the Sofitel is not what it used to be. In this circumstance, it is easy to blame CV-19 (and I understand that are restrictions & guidelines that must be adhered to), but these are the times a business needs to adapt and overcome. During our stay in BNE, my wife and I visited some friends who were staying at the Stamford Plaza, and the courtyard / foyer there was buzzing with activity ... which was a stark contrast to what we were experiencing at the Sofitel. For me personally, it made me feel a bit sad that (for the same sort of Room Rate $) the once-great Sofitel wasn't displaying that standard anymore. I do wish the Sofitel every success though, and I hope it can claw its way back to where it once was (and beyond), but for me at this time, I feel that some of its procedures & standards need to be reviewed, and that we can get better value elsewhere.
