Room cold air-conditioning not warming. Over charged at restaurant due to not being a member of something, you shouldn't charge more for paying hotel guests.

I had a night off from tenting while walking the Great North Walk. Hot shower, warm bed, close to shops and food outlets. This hotel was the closest place to the trail.

We stayed one night, the room was clean and comfortable. The customer service was great and staff were very friendly- especially Patrick when we came down for breakfast.

Hotel staff were great, very pleasant and friendly. The room is uncomfortable and awkward. The bathroom reminds me of the cramped bathrooms on board a cruise ship, complete with the elevated floor, weird triangular shape, plastic everything and rusted door frames. The threat of a $1500 charge if we set off the smoke alarm with steam is a nice touch too. Queen size bed with power on only one side for overnight phone charging is a pain as is having only 1 chair. I’m not sure why but the T.V in our room turned itself on at around 5am (I think), I’m not sure if it’s programmable and a previous guest set it up as an alarm?? Anyway, not your fault, just an annoyance. Another nice touch might be to have a couple of wine glasses in the room. Reception staff happily gave me a couple of glasses on request though. My wife and I were in town on business but we did want to enjoy some wine in our room after dinner. All in all, the pricing was reasonable but the room is weird and dated and well due some significant renovations, especially that horrible, strange bathroom.

Staff were helpful, courteous and so nice. We changed our plans, and they did everything to accommodate us. This was a medical trip.
