The staff were excellent. The room not so much. It was clean but very much in need of a make over.

Old rooms, uncomfortable beds. Needs a refurbishment

My sons and I are not 'great travelers'. We tend to make 2-day trips to the various cities, with as a core component the breakfast buffet. This is something dear to us. Of this I have nothing but compliments. The offer at Ibis Aalst was abundant, diverse. We ate until we complained we ate too much. The room itself was basic, which has a negative connotation, but I disagree. Basic is good. Basic is reliable. We take comfort in knowing (roughly) exactly what the experience will be. There were 2 issues, though: -Light and sound emanated through the doorcracks, which made rest difficult (but not impossible) -Some of the towels were improperly cleaned. Some hard stains were not removed. We did not feel comfortable using those towels. The bedding had a similar issue: they were clean, but did not 'smell clean'. I am unsure which product was used, perhaps not enough?
