I checked in to the Novotel Darling Square at approximately 10.30pm on 8 April 2024. I was allocated room 800. My room key unlocked the room door without issue. I heard a shriek and saw a woman in the bed. Reception staff had checked me in to an occupied room. I apologised to the woman, closed the door and went back down to reception. I was told the check-in system was displaying the room as vacant. It was clearly not. This was a serious breach of both security and privacy. I won’t stay again. I strongly recommend that the hotel contact the woman who was checked in to room 800 on 8 April 2024 and apologise. She must’ve been terrified.

Rooms were good. Breakfast was small but adequate and fresh. Environment was very nice and clean. The reason my rating isn't higher was there was roadworks outside my window on the first night. It was jackhammering and concreting. Super loud. It was planned roadworks and the hotel was aware. I was awake until I called reception at 1.30am asking when it was going to end. They said 4am. Really, if you know that's going to happen, don't put people in those rooms. Just think ahead a little. The person who answered was fantastic and moved me straight away, but it's better not to be packing and walking down the hall in my PJs at 1.30am. Just put your guests in rooms away from the action to start with. The reason it's a 7 and not a 2 is because the fix was actioned quickly and politely and the rest of my stay was seamless. Thank you. Please just think ahead next time.

Barely slept with the internal and external noise (roadworks and traffic). Asked for a phone charger and not 1 in the building for a Samsung (Android) .... the connections next to the bed not compatible.
