Certificate of excellence 2022

my expectations were a bit higher, but service was charming

Customer review rating 3.5/5

it's a 5 stars hotel well located in the heart of Lyon. The service and attention is excellent, and feeling welcome. You feel the quality of the property and the high skilled personnel. My experience this time was not that good because first my online checkin from the app was not working well and been charged. So did the regular checkin a bit worried about the charges. Didn't received any perks on being a gold member, nor a room upgrade. My room was correct, located in the 4th floor and "views" to the interior patio, better to have curtains all day shut. Bathroom needs a review. There's a step near the wc that is a pain, and the bagnoire has a huge high to step in. Breakfast was good. Service attention was very good and plenty of choice. Check-out was crowded and as was not able to do my online checkout was really slow but charming. Again attention was really good, but 20 minutes for a check out is too much. And as of curiosity I received my online checkout just a moment before, so was done despite showing not available. I will come back, because I'm sure was just expectations' alignment on a well recognised property.

Someone else was also checked into our room after we checked in. And the water in the shower was not hot.

Room was very comfortable and very quiet despite looking over Place Bellecour. Nice bar on the mezzanine level and good breakfast. The hotel offers good value for money in an excellent central location in Lyon. I can recommend it.

I had a really wonderful stay at the Hotel Le Royal Lyon. First, the hotel staff was extremely welcoming and attentive, which always makes the experience more human. The room was very clean (freshly ironed bed linens, large bathroom and heating/cooling that didn't blast the air in your face). I stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed their breakfast. The hotel is steps away from the Place Bellecour rapid transit station and made it very easy to explore Lyon. The surrounding neighborhoods are also very charming, with tons of shopping and places to eat. Rue de Boeuf is a short stroll away, which you'll be glad for the extra exercise after the incredible foods there

Enjoyable except for damage to suitcase

Suitcase pull-along handle worked at airport and into the hotel and taken by bellman. Bellman took suitcase and brought to room and placed suitcase on stand in room, and in the morning I was not able to engage the pull mechanism. It appears that the system was damaged during the handling by hotel staff.

Well located hotel, but clearly not a 5*

Mirmus Couples - TripAdvisor review

Hotel is well located in Lyon City center, near place Bellecour. CLose to the lively shopping area and restaurant/bar scene. Price is very reasonable. Which surely explaines why when it comes to "5 stars hotel", we are very far from it... 1/ Rooms are very aging. Pictures only show the renovated bedhead with nice wallpaper, but do not get fooled the rest (furnitures & bathrooms) have not been upgraded. Welcome back to the 90's ! 2/ Service is disorganized and unpleasant. Called for a early checkin, was told I will be contacted back in 10 minutes, but no one called back, and obviously the next day upon check-in at 14h45 our room was not ready... Minibar was not replenished, and we had to ask for it. The welcome for Platimum members is barely personalized nor acknoewledge (just got a drink voucher without much info on their bar...).

Dear Maéva.J, We thank you for your feedback on our house in Lyon. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Concerning the architecture and the decoration of our rooms we wanted to play the card of a traditional hotel, however all our furniture are functional and our maintenance teams are ready to intervene at any time if a problem would occur. Your feedback allows us to improve our services, this one has been passed on to our head of reception so that he can re-sensitize his team. We hope that this experience will not affect your loyalty to our hotel and we would like to see you again very soon. Sincerely, Louise Guest Relation

The place to stay in Lyon

vijayphadke Business - TripAdvisor review

We have stayed here several times & this was the 5th that was as good as all the previous ones. We were lucky to get a table at the Institute Restaurant that made our visit event more pleasant. Director Jean Christophe was very talented & knowledgable in explaining the food & the sites of Lyon. Located most ideally in Lyon at Bellcour. Surrounded by beautiful shops , museums nearby and almost everywhere walkable. The staff is very helpful with directions & recommending good typical Lyonaise rests. The BF is sumptuous worth it. There is one thing that the management needs to look into is to hand hold the students that are virtually managing the place. More senior managers at hand will make services even more professional. The room should have been checked for broken mirrors in the Bath for example.. This is not a critic of the students - far from it - but a Hotel needs senior managers at hand in more numbers. Excellent place to be. VP

I will start with the only minor element of our stay: the 2 bathrooms in our spacious room-suite were outdated. But the I have only positive comments: location, cleanliness, breakfast, staff, overall services are perfect.

Perfect location and great boutique hotel

Brilliant location- easy access to old town, shopping, everywhere in Lyon. Staff wonderful. Rooms very comfortable as well as having old world charm. Luxurious and very french. Loved the windows were doubled- so no sound got into the room at all- which was surprising given the location.

Dear guest, Thank you for your nice comments about your stay. We are pleased that you have enjoyed it. We will share your review with our teams, they will be really happy. Your satisfaction is our best reward. Sincerely. Barbara Carbonnel Sales Manager.

We stayed in this hotel for one night prior to our Uniworld River Cruise. It is a beautiful hotel located next to the Chef Paul Bocuse Institute (cooking school/restaurant). The location is great and near great restaurants. We ate lunch at another Paul Bocuse restaurant, Le Sud, recommended by the hotel staff. It was the best meal of our 10 day trip. We booked the Circular Junior Suit with a panoramic view of Lyon. What a unique, beautiful, posh room. I highly recommend this hotel.

Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your experience. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you soon in Lyon. Sincerely Barbara Carbonnel Sales Manager.
