Zhengzhou Sofitel was the third hotel we stayed in our mid Nov 19 China trip that took us from Beijing, Xian, zhengzhou and Luoyang. Love the beautiful hotel grounds and proximity to some of the best Chinese restaurants in zhengzhou. If only the in-house restaurants were better. Concierge Peter was very helpful. Unfortunately we did not Enjoy trips with with the hotel arranged driver. Driver was alright on the first day trip and drove at a reasonable speed. However, we did not feel very safe as he was constantly on the phone on our second day trip.

My colleagues and I stayed at Sofitel Zhengzhou for 5 nights. The accommodation was pre-paid. When we checked in, we asked the reception if any deposit was needed, the answer was no. In the evening, we all ordered room service at about 1030pm. We were not asked to pay. However, at about 1200 am, 4 of us were all knocked up, asked for payment for room service. My colleagues are all foreigners who did not have cash or wechat. I had to get up and paid by wechat. It was scary to have somebody knocking your door at 12 am, asked for payment. The next day, I provided my credit card as deposit for 4 of us. However, we still received phone call checking if the laundry would be paid individually. Apart from the above, the experience is OK.

There was a small miscommunication at the point of check in. However, it was resolved the next day and the hotel kindly upgraded me to a suite room. I felt welcomed after that. But due to weather changes, the room was warm and it was a little uncomfortable. My roommate and I both had bites from the bed on the first night. After the room change it was fine. I had informed the hotel to thoroughly check the room. Overall, I had a good stay and it was value for money. Dinner buffet selection was fantastic.

Very hot and dirty air

I could not sleep and could not work. Only if you open the window and the door during night time, 3 degrees low were possible. The air in Zhengzhou is very polluted, so that the whole stay was a catastrophe. Very hot and very dirty. Unfortunately, the hotel has not any cleaning filter for the dirty air and has no air conditioner if it is autumn time...so the problem was known as soon as weather forecast was available. As a gold member I am very upset of such a service. What can we tell about hotel in which one cannot sleep or work? 28 +. This temperature was shown the whole time I was in the room.

The staff were excellant and very attentive! However, I found the rooms to be a bit too dim. The breakfast spread was exactl the same everyday. Some variety would be good, especially for those staying quite a few days.

The staff are very friendly. Peter helped me to book ctrip with his wechat pay because I do have a chinese card to make the payment. Joy make sure that I am happy with my stay on wechat. I am a bit disappointed by the facilities especially the swimming pool which look a bit old and dirty. The room is too small for a five star hotel standard.
