I have sent the below by email as well: I am writing to formally register my extreme dissatisfaction and disgust regarding a severe breach of privacy and unacceptable hygiene failures during my recent stay at your hotel. As a guest who specifically chose Mercure for the trusted standards associated with the Accor brand, my experience was nothing short of horrifying. I checked in on 15 August and stayed in Room 510. For the duration of my stay, I maintained a "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door—a sign I had to explicitly request at check-in as the room was not equipped with one. Housekeeping clearly understood this directive, having left notes under my door on both the 16th and 17th of August. However, on the morning of Wednesday, 18 August, I left my room at approximately 7:00 AM with the "Do Not Disturb" sign prominently displayed. Because I anticipated a late return and an early departure the following morning, I laid my belongings out carefully to expedite packing. I also placed water bottles behind the door as a deliberate physical obstacle, ensuring that if anyone attempted to open the door accidentally, they would be deterred. When I returned at 12:30 AM on 19 August, I discovered that my room had been forcibly entered and my explicit instructions entirely ignored. The scene I walked into was deeply unsettling: Blatant Disregard for Privacy: The "Do Not Disturb" sign had been removed from the door and placed on my interior bathroom door handle. The water bottles I deliberately set behind the door had been moved and inexplicably packed into one of my personal bags. You can see the sign clearly in the attached photo. Unacceptable Hygiene Practices: My personal dental products were moved from their original location. As someone who treats these items with extreme care, I am appalled that they were handled by staff whose hygiene standards are clearly compromised. These were moved from the back of the sink and rearranged to the side. Gross Negligence with Bedding: My belongings, which I had carefully laid out on the bed, were swept aside and left in disarray on the couch. While the bed appeared to be made, the linens did not look fresh. More disturbingly, I found an Emirates luggage sticker—which had previously been on the floor—stuck to my pillow. This makes it undeniably clear that my pillows were thrown onto the dirty floor and simply placed back onto the bed. Even my wife’s hair bonnet which was in the bed was now in the floor near the couch. You can see this in the pictures. Contaminated Items Left Behind: I was horrified to find a bundle of dirty, color-coded cleaning cloths abandoned directly on top of my suitcase. The purpose of color-coding cloths is to prevent cross-contamination, yet bundling used cloths together and leaving them on a guest’s personal luggage entirely defeats this purpose and is incredibly unsanitary. This unauthorized invasion of my privacy and the unhygienic treatment of my personal space and belongings is completely unacceptable. As a direct result of your staff's actions, I was forced to waste over two precious hours in the middle of the night sanitizing my personal products and reorganizing my packing plans—a massive inconvenience and a genuine concern for my own health. I expect a prompt and clear explanation detailing exactly what happened. Why did a member of your staff force their way into my room, ignoring a "Do Not Disturb" sign and bypassing physical obstacles? Furthermore, I need to know what tangible steps you will take to rectify this situation and rebuild my shattered trust in this hotel and the wider Accor brand.
