Like any Sofitel properties, the staff and room are top quality. Staffs always available to help and are knows what they are talking about. The unfortunate thing is, when we checked into our first room, despite turning to the lowest setting (15’c), the room was continuously warm and had a damp smell. The team, quickly confirmed the issue, and despite a fairly booked night, tried to find me another room to stay. The second room has the same AC issue. At the end, we opened the windows on both corners to get a breeze. This was kind of bizarre in the fact that we get cooler air from outside in the middle of a heat wave than using the property’s AC.

The location is ideal, quiet neighbourhood with lovely shops, opposite the metro and the old city within walking distance. Room was spacious, spotless, quiet but unfortunately a bit dark and impersonal. Lobby and restaurant are beautifully decorated. Staff was friendly, service at check in incredibly slow. Concierge was helpful. Breakfast was plentiful although not really what you would expect at a Sofitel. Perhaps we are just a bit spoiled? All in all, we had a pleasant stay.

Very disappointing

Appalling, unreliable and inconsistent housekeeping. You never know what will be forgotten each day! Despite complaints, noone can be bothered! We are questioning our loyalty to the Accor group. No upgrade as expected for diamond members, check in became a negotiation- which it need not have been at all. The concierge service has been great though, and we are very grateful for their help

Stayed at this Sofitel for a long weekend (my birthday celebrations). I've stayed at many other Sofitels and can confirm the Lisbon Liberdade ranks highly. Beautifully styled with attention to detail, excellent service and great breakfast. You can easily walk to the main sights and the city centre, where you can find plenty of food options and beautiful squares. I'll definitely be back on my next trip to Lisbon! on to my next Sofitel adventure..

I had stayed twice in the hotel about ten years ago and the very fond memories brought me back there. A taxi from the airport costs less than 15 euros and takes no more than 20min but one can also easily take the tube (red+blue line, 2 euros, 35min) and get off at Avenida, right opposite the hotel door! The booking process last year was most traumatic and took more than two dozens of escalating exchanges with the reservation department and Guest Relations. Even at check-in, the 'special deal' I was granted after all was rubbed on my face and at every other possible time, always carelessly! Some of the staff with some hierarchy are real stuck-ups and borderline prejudiced; only that could explain why at reception I was replied to in French when speaking Portuguese to the young lady at the counter, whose mother tongue is also Portuguese - what is the purpose of this alleged 'distinction'?? And that was only one incident! Pre-charging 400 euros on a credit card for 'guarantee' is rather pushy and distrustful to the client, for in the minibar there is nothing but a few bottles of beverages. When the guest insists to pay the whole stay in advance, the hotel insists back with payment at check-out but with the 'guarantee'. The hotel did get modern in those years, everyone stands, the bar is more inviting, there are cosy niches up the stairs; nevertheless, it all looks a bit tacky and it feels like one is entering a design store instead of a hotel, which should be home away from home. Were they trying to sell me shoes, a handbag or alike?? Since I had stayed in the real suites before, along with in dozens of others also in Sofitels, knowing what to expect is an easy task. The junior suite has two real separate rooms (and one door for each); if only other hotels in the chain put the definition into real practice... The main bedroom is cosy and elegant, the bed is firm and the acoustic isolation is simply amazing! The AC seems to have a life of its own, for it changed the set temperature along the day and night, and one would wake up in the middle of the night sweating. That seems to happen in both rooms. Speaking of the seating room, it is spacious and pleasant, but the carpet is stained and furniture is showing signs of tiredness after the years, which can also be identified in the sleeping room, with cracks and scratches. The sofa can be turned into a a(n uncomfortable) bed when required, because nobody cared to have one suite with two single beds ready! Nor was there ever the concern to have a working corner, with a proper table for a laptop and a comfortable chair close to a power outlet and a phone, one has to make adaptations. The bathroom was very well designed, it is well lit-up and practical, also with the height of the shelves and position of the mirrors, including the one on the back of the door. Everything works there perfectly, the very opposite of the other bathroom, where there are 'tricks' for this and that to function properly, including the toilet, which constantly works below 100% of its pressure. If there is a trick to have this or that to work properly, it's because it is neither easy or obvious nor functioning properly indeed, isn't it?? There is no pool or spa in the hotel, both could be very well used in the common hot days in Lisbon. The fact such facilities were never considered in the renovation surprises me, especially it being an alleged 5 star hotel. Internet works finely but not without eventual ups-and-downs and registration is requested every 24 hours or so, rather annoying. The whole world suffers with staff shortage, we all need to be patient. But does the barkeeper have to run between tables and counters all the time in the evening?? If so, how come one gets waited by 4 different people for dinner and has a number of staff wandering around at breakfast in such an 'exclusive' hotel?? There is clearly a managerial problem in place. Speaking of breakfast, the selection is complete and one finds everything needed in elegant presentation. Yet I had to always ask someone to hand me a glass and would get have an entire lime sliced when all I needed was a thin slice. Sustainability must be learnt in this Sofitel, a lot of food is going to waste, while so many starve and beg in front of the hotel! Another example was the fruit plate received after the nasty toilet incident, which simply disappeared from one day to the other, along with half a bottle of champagne planned to be drunk up the next day. Wasting and throwing away seem regular practice in this hotel, it is really sad. Despite the great isolation from outdoors, peace and quiet aren't exactly what one finds indoors, for the thin walls allows everything to be heard by everyone. Complaints have been constant for years here, which means tmanagement is not unaware of the fact, but why choosing not to do anything about it during he renovation?? Housekeeping doesn't help, either, with slamming of doors as of 7:30h every day; couldn't they simply close each door, instead of having them slam behind them and make noise?? The check-out process was dry and careless, it felt like a favour was being done by leaving the hotel. Nobody showed up to collect feedback, to grant a smile or even to ask if a taxi was needed, staff was more concerned about their coffee and look posh. In a proper 5 star hotel, the concierge or a manager would be called to proceed with the chcek-out of a Platinum guest with complaints, to understand what happened and commit to improvements for a future visit; again, the hotel is so full of itself that they simply don't care. And the automatic opinion poll we all get in our mailbox right after checking out hasn't reached me yet - is it deliberate?? A 5 star hotel should cater for details and that's why a specific niche prefers them once in a while, not to mention the solid reputation the brand Sofitel has all over the world, unfrtunately stained by this unit, as the vast majority of reports here undoubtedly state. Having worked in one myself, I know just what to expect as a client and as a guest, for my training and supervision then along with my solid travel experience educated me up to that level - that to say I know exactly what fails! My honest relief was to confirm that my views and feelings are shared by almost 70% of reviewers on Trip Advisor this year, with a number of comments similar to mine, all of them followed by a robotic and heartless reply by Ms Rodriguez. Therefore, a 'downgrade' to an M Gallery would lower the expectation and surprise the guests, that with consistent work on attitude from part of the staff, they are almost unbearably arrogant and fake. Let's see if it shall take other ten years for me to return, real/honest reviews shall prove that, not the words in the wind blown here my (not so competent) management, so frustrating and sad...
