Terrible location

Robert P. Friends - Confirmed reviews ALL

15 minutes from metro with no buses or trams or local shops, bars anything - and taxis in Amsterdam are expensive and rare Overcharged by about 200 euros for room which was blamed on Booking.com - unfortunately it was booked by a friend Staff pleasant

Dear Mr P., Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We are pleased that you found our staff pleasant, reflecting our commitment to service. However, we regret to hear that the hotel's location did not meet your expectations. Our hotel is conveniently positioned just a short walk from metro stations Overamstel and Spaklerweg, providing direct access to the heart of Amsterdam within 10-15 minutes. However, we understand that the convenience of transport can be subjective and we apologize if this was not adequately communicated. Regarding the issue with the room charges, we're sorry for any confusion that arose from the booking process. While we typically ensure transparent communication of fees through all booking platforms, it appears there was a misunderstanding in this instance. We will review this with the third-party service to prevent such discrepancies in the future. We hope that you will allow us the opportunity of providing you with an improved stay in future. Best regards, Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City

Couple's weekend away

Quest07471809078 Couples - TripAdvisor review

The hotel location is great, just outside of the centre, reachable by metro (10 minutes walk) or tram (25 minutes walk). We used both options and it gives you an idea of the area. We stayed for a long weekend and had a great time. The reception staff are impeccable. The room was great with a lovely view on the 16th floor. We consumed breakfast however that was slightly disappointing. The fresh dishes were nice but for a 4 star hotel some of the produce such as coffee, jams and juices could be of a better quality. For the produce, it is quite overpriced in comparison with other Mercure hotels. Awi, however, the chef who was also helping out in the restaurant made it two perfect mornings for us. The view from the bar is lovely over the water and we would definitely recommend this property for other travellers.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review about our hotel. We are delighted that you found our hotel's location convenient and that our reception staff provided impeccable service during your stay. The comfort and satisfaction of our guests are our top priorities, and we are pleased that you enjoyed your room and the stunning view from the 16th floor. However, we apologize if the breakfast did not entirely meet your expectations in terms of quality and pricing. At Mercure Amsterdam City, we continuously strive to provide a wide selection of fresh and high-quality items for our guests, and we will take your feedback into consideration as we review our breakfast offerings. Nonetheless, it is great to hear that you had two perfect mornings, thanks to the efforts of our Chef Awi. We also appreciate your recommendation of our property to other travelers, and we're thrilled that you enjoyed the lovely views from our bar overlooking the water. We are hoping to welcome you back in the future. Best regards, Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City

Mixed Experience

Customer review rating 2.5/5

Magdalena Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

During my recent stay at the Mercury Hotel in Amsterdam, my experience was a mix of highs and lows. Starting with cleanliness, the overall standard left much to be desired, especially in the dining area. I noticed that coffee mugs were placed on shelves that were dusty and had visible stain marks. It made me question the hygiene of the space, which was disappointing. As for the rooms, they were relatively clean, and the bedding was fresh, which was a positive. However, after my first night, I woke up with bites on my legs, raising concerns about bed bugs. I immediately reported this to the staff, and to their credit, they responded quickly and professionally. They checked the room and reassured me that it wasn't bed bugs, suggesting it might have been mosquitoes. However, since the windows do not open, I'm skeptical of this explanation. On a brighter note, the breakfast selection was excellent. There was a wide variety of options, and the food quality was consistently high, which made for an enjoyable start to the day. In summary, while there were some issues with cleanliness and concerns about bites, the staff were attentive, and the breakfast offerings were impressive. With improvements in hygiene, the Mercury Hotel could provide a much more satisfying experience.

Dear Magdalena, Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We are pleased that you appreciated the attentive response of our staff and the fresh bedding in your room. It's also rewarding to hear that you enjoyed our extensive breakfast selection, which we take pride in offering to provide a great start to every guest's day. We are sincerely sorry to hear about your concerns regarding cleanliness, particularly in the dining area. We understand the importance of maintaining a pristine environment and we regret any discomfort this may have caused you. Additionally, the distress caused by the bites you experienced is concerning to us. We take matters of guest comfort and well-being very seriously and although our investigation suggested mosquitoes as the possible cause, we want to assure you that we have rigorous pest control measures in place and regularly inspect our rooms to prevent such issues. Nonetheless, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused during your stay. Finally, we are glad that you found our room amenities to your satisfaction, with comfortable bedding and free WiFi available to enhance your stay. We constantly strive to ensure that our guests have a pleasant experience at Mercure Amsterdam City, and your comfort is our top priority. We hope to welcome you back. Best wishes, Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City

Good central location

friendly and helpful staff at the reception with a cosy and chillaxing lobby. Unfortunately, no water whatsoever in the room, which was a disappointment…

Dear Anis, Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We are delighted that you appreciated the central location of our hotel and the friendly and helpful nature of our reception staff. It is always a pleasure to hear that our guests find the lobby welcoming and a comfortable place to relax. Nonetheless, we are sorry to hear that the absence of bottled water in your room led to disappointment. We would like to clarify that while we do not provide bottled water, we offer a complimentary water machine in the lobby for all our guests, as Amsterdam boasts some of the cleanest tap water in Europe. We hope this did not cause too much inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding. Finally, we are pleased that our hotel's central location was to your liking, offering easy access to Amsterdam's key attractions and business districts. We trust this contributed positively to your stay with us. We hope we will have the opportunity to see you again in the future. Best regards, Francis Windt, General Manager, Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City
