Awful, dated and dirty rooms

I stayed at the Mercure Centre on business. The rooms were described as "modern" online and the hotel supposedly 4 star. But they are the opposite of modern. They clearly haven't been updated or renovated in 30 or more years. The colour scheme is awful and not at all restful - red carpet, purple bedspread and curtains, teal green on the ceiling, wall, and desk, lime green chairs all mixed together. The carpets were threadbare and dirty, stained and visible piles of dust in the corners. There was black mould in the grouting in the bathroom tiles in the shower. The rooms are truly awful. I tried to check out early after checking in- something I have never, ever done before, and ai travel regularly for business - but was told I couldn't (or at least, couldn't if I wanted a refund). The only thing redeeming about this hotel was the breakfast which was passable. This hotel is definitely not 4 star, and is not at all worth the money.

We loved the room, bed was very comfortable, good car park.

The room Airconditioner system didn’t work. There was no airflow to the room. It made the room very stuffy. I made a complaint to the reception desk who asked m switch on and off the control which I did a few times but it didn’t work! The maintenance staff need to inspect the proper functioning of the room facilities.
