I visited this hotel with my grandson last July and I was so impressed with the service, the room and the food that I came back with my husband. The check in process was swift and thanks Kai for making our welcome memorable. The room - suite was fabulous - spacious clean and comfortable. We had lunch and the service staff and chef did an outstanding job - thank you. Our stay overall fantastic and I don't know when we will be back in the UK but will stay at the York Novotel again

Visiting York on the way around the country. Hotel Allows Dogs - noisy ones that bark a lot! I love dogs but unruly and noisy ones should not be in the public areas and on the furniture.

Bathrooms need updating. Toilet separate in a room no larger than a cupboard. Sink and hardware very old fashioned. Shower a dangerous slip hazard. Air conditioner broke down on second night of stay, although a fan was provided. Fancy light above desk did not work. Breakfast very unimpressive considering the price. No better than the free breakfast at Holiday Inn Express. Lounge/ bar was inviting. However overall would not recommend until rooms are updated.

We are particularly sorry about the air conditioning breaking down during your second night, as well as the issue with the desk light. Location is about 15 to 20 minutes walk to centre of the attractions. Clifton tower is about 10 minutes walk. We booked the hotel for the pool but was disappointed as the pool is small and you need to book for a 30 minute slot, which I think is too quick. By the time you got changed, has sorted how the lockers work and is ready for the swim, 15 minutes have gone. Also, I was a bit annoyed by the guy at the reception who was wearing a headband, as he kept repeating that we can only use the pool for 30 minutes, which we already knew, and yet he did not even say any word to the two women who went in the pool before us. This just feels intimidating and unwelcoming. On the other hand, Namash and Anisha from the reception are very accommodating and friendly. Pawan and the other southeast asian lady from the restaurant are also very helpful and attentive to client's needs. Restaurant food is a bit pricey but good. The complimentary drink given being a member of all accor is welcoming indeed. Our room is clean, towels changed as needed and coffee and teas were topped -up daily. The toilet is separate from the bathroom but I think there should be a small sink in the toilet to directly wash the hands as it is inconvenient and unhygienic to transfer to the bathroom sink just to wash your hands after using the toilet, especially if someone has already entered the bathroom and you were left to wait just to wash your hands. Overall, we had 4 nights of good sleep with the aircon working and enjoyed our stay in York..Thanks Novotel.

Even though the staff at the hotel were very helpful and nice (only good things about the hotel), I would not stay here again. The rooms were 'prison like' with only one small window. The addiitional car park charges were extortionate, given the room rate was quite high for a small room and added an extra £37 to our stay! The are of the hotel was cloe to town but is also by the local weatherspoons and we did not feel safe walking back to the hotel later at night. The hotel was also very noisy at night and there was a row on our floor from a family who had fallen out. The breakfast was excellent to be fair and the staff in the kitchen very polite and quick. The hotel was also very tired looking and in need of refurbishment, given the price charged. Will not be recommending to any friends and family.

We believe our parking charges are competitive for York and, importantly, provide guests with the opportunity to leave their vehicle with us after checking out and continue to explore York without having to worry about moving their car in a hurry. In terms of our location, the hotel is situated by the river in a quiet residential area. We can only assume that the business you refer to is the one approximately a five-minute walk away, at the end of two streets. There are a multitude of routes available for returning to the hotel, and while we are sorry that you felt unsafe walking back later in the evening, we would not consider the immediate area surrounding the hotel to be unsafe. We are also sorry to hear that you experienced noise during your stay. Unfortunately, on occasion, we cannot control the behaviour of other guests, although we certainly appreciate how disruptive this can be, particularly at night. We do value your positive comments about our team and breakfast, and it is disappointing that other aspects of your stay meant that you would not choose to return. We were very grateful to Favour, on Reception, for arranging an early check in for us; this was very much appreciated. We arrived early and to be able to park and plug our EV in was very convenient. The room and stay overall was excellent, as were the staff. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.
