The following points are relevant to our stay and discontent with the hotel – 1. On arrival at the desk we were informed straight away that the restaurant was closed for the Saturday and Sunday nights. WE booked the hotel because we wanted a restaurant for our stay over the weekend as it would be difficult to book restaurants in Brive and indeed we did not want to drive into a town we did not know. 2. The receptionist however immediately suggested we walk about 5/10 minutes down the road to a restaurant that was open – Le Depot. We started walking to see how far it was and stopped after a short walk as the road was very busy with traffic and a very poor footpath which in the dark for the return was unacceptable as far as we were concerned being senior citizens around 80. 3. We decided to drive down to see how far it was and when it opened, which confirmed it was a longer walk for older generation. We did return and had a very good meal on both the Saturday and Sunday nights. In view of the hotel not being open on those nights we felt we were unable to support the hotels restaurant on the Monday night and ate again in Le Depot. Also the hotel menu was not to our liking. 4. The first night we found the room on the top floor was very hot requiring us to open the window and allow fresh cool air into the room. The following day we turned the air conditioning on whilst we were out for dinner and returned to find it had not cooled the room – in fact quite the opposite as it appeared that the heating was working and the room was like a sauna. That night we had to sleep with the window wide open to cool the room down to enable us to try and get a better nights sleep. The next morning I enquired as to why the air conditioning was not working and was advised it was. They stated the heating was not working but gave no explanation for the system pouring out hot air. This was the same situation for the third night and no action was taken to rectify the problem or even offer another room where it was working. 5. We could not understand why we were sweating profusely in the bed as the under-sheet was soaking. I removed a corner of the under-sheet and found that a plastic sheet was fitted underneath it creating a damp bedding situation. This is not mentioned in your very explicit wording for your quality bedding in the hotel. We were disgusted as we felt we were being treated as elderly incontinent guests! 6. In relation to the bedding, the pillows were virtually flat slabs and very hard to rest your head in comfort. They all need replacing with soft feather or foam filled comfortable pillows. 7. For breakfast we prefer to have a croissant and coffee and fruit juice, but the hotel only provides a full breakfast at their full price – which makes it very expensive. Other Mercure’s provide such a breakfast at a much reduced rate. 8. All in all we were very disappointed with the hotel services – and whilst a member of ALL we will probably be looking in the future for better standards from other hotel groups as we feel that ever since COVID the groups standards have fallen quite sharply! 9. There are fridges in the rooms – why can milk not be placed in them to compliment the tea and coffee service you provide? 10. The towels were not changed for the whole of our stay. 11. We found the shower base to be extremely dangerous especially as it is a smooth plastic surface which becomes very slippery with soap on it from showering. Either a dimpled effect is required or a simple plastic dimpled shower mat provided.

This hotel is basically a transit hotel for one night a few kilometres outside of Brive. The hôtel for a Mercure is bit tired but very well run. The restaurant and bar are good which is good as the town is a little bit far away to go into it for an evening meal.

I am really satisfied with the experience. The hotel is located in an adequate site to move all around the region. The premises are clean and the environment is quite silent, allowing to have pleasant nights. All the members of the personnel were extremely kind and responsive to our requests.
