Decent rooms with nice accommodations, but hotel itself needs lots of work The balcony door was very difficult to open and close as it did not slide very well. Many of the bathroom fixtures needed repair as they were loose or falling off the wall. Pool and towel hours really need to improve 9am is very late open. Especially when cleanliness of beach exit area (lots of hard age by the stairs) and pool itself aren’t complete. They were doing maintenance work in the pool (scrubbing tile) after 9am while guests were IN the pool!!! I’m not sure what towels were washed with or where they were stored, but they smelled of some type of gas/kerosene. Friendliness and staff availability to help at front desk needs massive improvement. Out of all of our stays with Royal over the past 30yrs it’s been one of the least welcoming, with Long waits, no apologies or attempt to ease checkin or check out. The fountain at front of hotel was not working so it was stagnant unappealing water perfect for mosquitos. Hotel itself is remotely away from center of it all which can be nice but it’s a distance to get there without a car. A sitting/waiting area I. The lobby would be nice. Also, early pool activities or staff lead games would be a nice touch. Fixed palapas or beach umbrellas need to be added to beach sand area for guests comfort.

Friendly affordable

The hotel's location is good, with some things within walking distance and most things within short driving distance. The pool and the beach location are the biggest selling points of this location. The sunsets are great in the infinite pool! Staff are friendly, and in general, the cleanliness of the facility is good. I had a couple of hiccups: 1) The room that we got was clearly outdated with rusty metal parts in the bathroom (sink, trash cans, shower). Our door wouldn't simply open; you would have to do some maneuvers to open it, and we noticed that it was because the lock was out of frame. One of the power plugs next to the bed was just loose and perhaps not safe to use. The light above the bed was flickering (we ended up not using it). One of the days, we got towels that seemed to be towards the end of their usable life. 2) The staff was friendly, but they wouldn't check on you too often. The first full day that we were there, the hotel was not full by any means. Perhaps there were 10 people at the pool. A waiter came to take our order, but then disappeared for at least 1 hour. I had to go to the restaurant and order there. Similarly, I wanted a drink at the bar at~6pm, and I waited at least 5 minutes at the bar with no one even acknowledging me (walked away with no drink). Other than that, our stay was comfortable, and the room cleaning crew was fantastic! They did a great job and asked when we wanted the room to be cleaned while being respectful of our space. With a couple tweaks, I definitely would come back and stay there again.
