At check-in, we had booked a junior suite, but the room overlooked a dirty car park and the windows themselves were also unclean. When I requested a change, we were moved to a smaller room without any explanation that this was actually a downgrade. I only realized this afterward and had to raise a complaint. It was frustrating because I would have gladly paid extra for a better room, but this option was never offered upfront. A manager eventually proposed a solution, but by then it was too late for us to move due to time constraints. Overall, the hotel feels unwelcoming and poorly managed. Staff appear very junior and lack proper training. Only two floors (5 and 7) seem to be operational, and out of four lifts, only one is working, which creates unnecessary inconvenience. There is no proper restaurant serving breakfast. We ordered room service instead, but the food quality was extremely poor—cold items, stale bread, and very limited, unappetizing options. Complaints to staff didn’t lead to any resolution, likely due to their lack of experience and authority. Basic service is also lacking. Reception staff struggle to answer simple questions, and even reaching the operator for basic information is difficult. Something as simple as requesting an extra quilt took multiple calls (3–4 attempts) before it was finally delivered correctly. I suggested to the manager that this quieter period could be used to properly train staff and improve service standards, and even simple touches like offering coffee in the lobby could make a difference. Overall, this was a very unsatisfactory stay, and the hotel has significant room for improvement across service, training, and guest experience.

From Mr Sami Aawar, the charming General Manager, to Mr Abbas, the F&B Manager; Mr Chadi, the outstanding and well networked Security Manager; the front‑of‑house doorman, your charming Nigerian gentleman whose mane sadly slips my mind; the security team including Faisal; the “cannot be more helpful” front desk; the welcoming restaurant and coffee shop teams including the outlet manager Marta, Inkyin Si, Muslim and Haydar; and the room staff, everyone simply could not have been more welcoming or helpful. Bearing in mind where we are in Baghdad, I would never have associated Iraq with providing me with the most perfect stay in the region. I felt transported back to a time when true hospitality meant something, and within a day, the Mövenpick Baghdad became my home from home. The hotel itself is frankly amazing for the location, and the effort put into the first week of the Holy Month of Ramadan was simply mind‑blowing, transforming a patio area into a fully-fledged Ramadan entertaining space. But it was the attention to detail in the service that truly elevated the team from excellent to wholesome and charming. I honestly cannot remember a hotel that has made me feel so genuinely welcome in a very long time, with such a sincere desire to help guests relax. Thank you to all for a fabulous 2 weeks!
