View was breathtaking, and the room was very spacious and accommodating. Location to the lake and stores was unmatched. We'll be coming back. Very intimate and romantic but practical as well, got engaged during the evening.

A wonderful place to stay at Tekapo, just next to the highway overlooking the vast lake. Our rooms were very well sized and laid out. The rooms were very well cleaned and the gallery had enchanting view of the vast lake. The rooms allotted to us above the reception were just excellent. The restaurant and the reception areas are sort of combined in a way that restaurant appears to be an extension of the reception. The breakfast layout was reasonably satisfying. Hotel lacks in providing assistance in handling luggage and did not have ramp to carry the same, so all bags had to be lifted and placed in the elevator by us. Tekapo being a small village this hotel is just minutes’ walk away from the main market area. All in all a good property to stay in Tekapo.

It started well with lovely helpful lady at check-in, however for the price the room was very small, with broken Venetian blind, bedside light didn’t work and when checking plug behind was dirty and covered in dust. The entrance way was a small alcove separating two rooms and was obviously where people came out to smoke as it reeked of cigarettes. We had been left a complimentary bottle of wine, which was a nice gesture but couldn’t help but think it was to make up for the room quality. As it was our anniversary we decided to dine in at the restaurant and enjoy a few drinks but when we arrived just after 5.30 we’re told a table was unavailable as they were expecting a large group. At this stage the restaurant was empty except for one other couple. They gave us options where to eat in town but after driving round for 15mins we were unable to find a park as it was so busy due to a Christmas market in town so just ended up forgetting dinner for the night so overall a disappointing stay in Lake Tekapo.

Peppers was the final stop on our trip before the drive back to Christchurch and the comfort, quiet surroundings and handy 5 minutes from the village made it a winner. We somehow were given a two bedroom suite, but no complaints there. A fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, gas fire place, and spacious living room got the big tick. The staff were very accommodating and though we were officially early for our check in and lunch, they were happy to make a great pizza accompanied by a couple of glasses of wine so we could relax in the lounge area till our room was ready. The village is 5 minutes away and you could walk if needs be. Aside from the usual shops, cafes, tour facilities and restaurants there's a well stocked supermarket. Peppers is the pick of the Lake.
