Charlotte went out of her way to assist in accommodating us, including my wheelchair bound elderly mother. She provided any and all the information we needed for the accesible room (including the exact height of the bed!), ensured we had adjoining rooms etc.. Thank you Charlotte! All the staff we met were lovely. The rooms were modern, clean and well appointed; very comfy bed, although pillows were a little soft for me. We enjoyed our evening meal and staff were happy to accommodate changes we requested to some individual dishes.

I have been an Accor Member for as long as I can recall - at least 20 years. I have booked significant numbers of stays in Novotel's and Mercure's during that time both for myself and my family across much of France inc Paris, London, Exeter, elsewhere, and now Cambridge. They are my 'go to' brand and could be my specialist subject were I ever to embark on Mastermind. Therefore, I feel qualified to judge and I have never given less than 5 stars until now, usually due to a combination of hotel + service. Is the relatively new Novotel in Cambridge a bad hotel? No. Could it be a lot better? Yes. New build 3 years ago, located on a rather awkward site adjacent both the station and the railway, it is surprisingly quiet (quadruple glazing) albeit busy outside. Access is via an almost unmade road (some work to be done here) but once on site, it is all new except that the roads have a weird one way system mainly for buses, whilst parking is in the railway car park - so a bit of unexpected faffing and extra cost required. Reception.....oh dear. All Novotel's I have ever visited have a bank of receptionists - at least 4 stations - and well trained staff with all of the required IT facilities/connectivity. Not here. Two staff members perched awkwardly behind a small desk, trying to work off of laptops/card machines and with inadequate facilities and WiFi. The card machine failed 3 times, I then had to wait whilst the other member of staff put all my card details into her Laptop (GDPR?) and a receipt came out in a different part of the hotel. The Reception staff didn't seem to think it was an issue (it was) and have clearly grown immune to frustrated customers. Not good. The room....new, well appointed, view of the car park, quiet, etc...all of the things I have come to expect. However, the designers were clearly out to lunch or having a bad day when they redesigned the bathrooms....shambles. One of the joys of Novotel's is the separate WC - just a little bit of privacy and allows others to use the bathroom at the same time. Not here. The two are joined and a single swinging glass door (opaque but still see-through) acts as both the bathroom and the WC door - bonkers. Privacy gone, and the surfaces used almost designed to amplify the noise....any noise. It would be enough to stop me ever coming here again. Moreover, whilst we had a fridge, there was no water. My wife enquired at the small reception as to where it was and was told 'only 'executive' rooms are supplied with water, why not drink from the tap or better still walk across the road to the small Co-Op and buy it for yourself'...excuse me? Simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Accor, get a grip. Dinner....as with most Novotel's, dinner was fine - reasonable quality food (the Poke Bowl being a particular 'hit'), well paced service by enthusiastic and friendly staff, and no pressure. The wine list is a little restricted and too expensive in my view (£38 for an average Albarino?) and missing that french bias. However, the whole thing was utterly tainted by the condition of the chairs. 'Surely not?' you might think, but the cloth material on all (not just most) has taken a stain bashing and they look so bad, just sitting on them feels like a risk, apart from the aesthetics. These need replacing immediately. Breakfast....saved the day! Enthusiastic multi-lingual welcome from a friendly host, great food, lots of choice, easy and relaxed. So, all in all, a perfectly adequate stop-over and like a Curate's egg, bits of it were fine....but bits of it weren't. To do's: - Bigger, better equipped reception, with more and better trained staff (PS, the card machine at the adjacent bar worked fine...!). - Water in every room and by the way, I have since checked, and it is not clear that water is not supplied. - Change all of the Restaurant chairs NOW! - Do something with those 'car crash' bathroom doors. - Be clear about the parking. - Expand/improve the wine offer - Give the breakfast host a bonus.

I read the good and bad reviews before going so was not sure what to expect. Parking is at Cambridge North station Long stay. It does not mention anything about Novotel hotel guests. I called them ans they confirmed it. I booked Executive room 520. The room was brilliant. Cant fault it. If I was to travel to cambridge again, I would book the same room. Breakfast was good. As a vegetarian, they had few options. They gave us vegan sausages and specially prepared Hash browns, to as the one on the buffet is cooked in the same oil as fish and chips. The staff in the breakfast area was great, very accommodating. My stay was very good. The only thing I would recommend for the hotel is to include 2 bottles of still water. There was 2 of us in the room. The room had 1 still and 1 sparkling. Not a fan or sparking water. Other than that the room was great.

A special thanks to Charlotte and Faisal on check-in. They were very welcoming and really helped me out. It’s my first time in this hotel and will definitely not be my last. The breakfast staff and check were also great. Good job all, look forward to my next visit.

Not clear where to park. Eventually found car park where you have to pay even though you’re in the middle of a wasteland. Room ok but strange flat sinks Beds good Staff awful especially on reception, no charm no smiles no greetings . Really rude and unwelcoming. Need some new staff here. Felt unwanted
