A visually stunning hotel.

The Obelisk hotel stands tall in the medical district, near the Dubai creek. At 51 floors, it is by far the tallest structure in the area. The hotel is connected to the ‘Wafi’ mall, which is OK but there are much better, shopping malls in Dubai. The hotel is 300m from the green line metro station, so there is no need to use taxis, from the airport if you are able bodied. The outside and entrance to the hotel is immaculately presented. It is kept spotlessly clean and has welcoming concierge and security personnel. As my wife and I were staying in a club room, we were allowed to check in at the club lounge, which is located on the 51st floor. I have to say having access to the club lounge elevated our stay at the Obelisk. We had breakfasts downstairs for 2 days of our stay. While it was ok, we missed the quietness, views and overall tranquility of the club lounge. My wife and I value a well equipped hotel gym. The gym at the Obelisk was a disappointment. It’s just too small. The equipment is great but there’s not enough of it. 3 treadmills?? 2 bikes? 2 elliptical? For a hotel with 500 rooms? What were they thinking. We had our Christmas Day meal at the ‘The Nine’ restaurant in the hotel. This however, was one of the few regrets of our stay. The promised ‘live entertainment’ was mediocre. Father Christmas, left after 3 minutes and the food was forgettable. Overall the hotel is worthy of its 5 stars. We wouldn’t hesitate to return, however, there are so many great hotels in Dubai. A special mention to Mohammed Elhellw, he’s great at his job.

Amazing hotel! firstly , let me say the staff are so nice and so helpful. We arrived earlier than our check in time due to our flight and the manager made sure we had our rooms as quickly as possible. We appreciated this a lot and can’t thank him enough. The staff all around are incredible , so welcoming , kind and caring. This hotel is in an ideal location for getting around to places and with so many restaurants and takeaways nearby. I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone and for sure for our next Dubai trip , we will be back here!

Disappointing Hotel Policies That Can Ruin Your Stay

This was my third stay at Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk, having previously had great experiences. However, this time, the hotel’s policies completely ruined the start of our trip and left a negative impression. During check-in, I was forced to upgrade to a One-Bedroom Suite because my 7-year-old daughter was not allowed to stay in a Deluxe Room—a policy that was never communicated at the time of booking. This unexpected change cost me an additional 735 AED per night, totaling almost 3000 AED extra for our stay. To make things worse, despite the steep upgrade charge, we were not given club access, which was disappointing. What makes this policy even more frustrating is that the One-Bedroom Suite is simply a higher-floor room with a living area, dining table, sofa, and an extra TV. No extra bed was provided, meaning my child still had to sleep in the same bed size as in a Deluxe Room. If the bed remains the same, what’s the point of not allowing children in a Deluxe Room and forcing families into an expensive suite? It felt completely unnecessary and unreasonable. Additionally, I had a $200 food credit, which should have been 734 AED as the USD-AED exchange rate is pegged at 3.67. However, the hotel used their own conversion rate of 3.40, unfairly reducing the value of my credit. While the service and location of the hotel are still good, these new hidden policies and pricing strategies completely overshadow the experience. For the amount we paid, we could have stayed at a much better hotel without these restrictions. If you’re traveling with a child above 4 years old, be prepared for unexpected charges that could significantly impact your budget. Unfortunately, after being a loyal guest, this experience has made me reconsider staying here again. Disappointed.
