“Beautiful property, deeply disappointing restaurant and room maintenance” TL;DR: Stunning property and warm staff overall — but the restaurant repeatedly failed on vegetarian dietary requirements, food quality, and basic service. Room maintenance was also slow. Not acceptable at this price point. We stayed for two nights entire family. The property is genuinely beautiful. However, the restaurant experience and some room maintenance issues were consistently poor enough to significantly affect our stay. Day 1 — Lunch Our Savannah Fizz arrived flat. Rather than replacing the drinks, a staff member returned with a soda bottle for us to top up ourselves — with our drinks already mixed. Papadums arrived only after we asked. Oregano seasoning took over 20 minutes and requests to multiple staff members. One of three identical desserts came out incomplete, and when we asked why, the response was simply “oh, we just forgot.” Day 1 — Dinner We had clearly communicated a strict vegetarian, no-egg requirement throughout our stay. Despite being assured by the chef of multiple vegetarian options, there was no buffet and the menu had only two vegetarian options and even one of them contained egg. Rancid seeds were placed beside the soup were stale, and the Almond Laddoo tasted horrible because of rancid almonds Same was pointed out to the staff and chef, it went unacknowledged. The rice was undercooked, and rather than a fresh batch we were offered to have it “cooked a bit more", none other than by the lady chef who we had asked to see because of so mamy food issues. Day 1 — Rooms The shower in room 509 was stuck above 40°C —so even when turned to cold only hot water came out. However after reporting tha same it was fixed promptly. In one of the room no. 512, the safe/ locker was showing low battery. It was fixed only after mutliple calls and took someone 24 hours to come and fix. We asked for fresh towels while at lunch. They were kept outside the room instead of being placed inside. At a 5 star resort i shouldnt have to do that myself. Day 2 — Lunch Chef Das apologized for the previous evening and was himself surprised that only two of the four vegetarian dishes he had prepared were actually served to us. The apology was appreciated, but nothing other than an apology was offered to make our experience better. Day 2- swimming poool- we went at around 11:30 am. There was debris, small dead insects, leaves etc in the pool with no one around to call for cleaning. Day 2 — Dinner Service was poor again except for Elizabeth, our server across both evenings, who was the only consistent bright spot in the entire restaurant experience — proactive, empathetic, and on Day 2 she waived two drinks recognizing our poor experience. She deserves recognition. Checkout — Packed Breakfast We had explicitly requested vegetarian, no-egg meals for our entire stay — including at dinner the night before checkout. The packed breakfast we received contained egg sandwiches, simply labelled “vegetarian.” We caught it before eating, but this was a serious lapse for a group with strict dietary requirements beacuse for most indians its a religious issue sometimes. The Bright Spots The property is stunning, the staff other than at the restaurant were lovely, and Chef Ashok delivered a genuinely good breakfast on Day 2. Elizabeth and Chef Das were the only restaurant staff who showed real accountability. Summary For a property of this caliber and price point, the restaurant is a serious weak point. If dietary requirements matter to you, be very explicit, follow up constantly, and even then — verify. We shouldn’t have had to. It was utterly disappointing to see that fairmont which is a luxury global brand is ok with such service being meted out and hospitality includes to better the experience and correct the mistakes when pointed out. But the responses from most staff were awful
