Fairmont made the Birthday so special I am a Fairmont Accor member , so I get emails, approximately once a month, advising me of special rates and promotions being offered at various Fairmont globally. I began to plan my wonderful wife’s special birthday a few months early. I wanted to take my wife somewhere really special. She is a dream of a wife and I am thankful for her so I really wanted a perfect getaway. I received one email about Frontenac while I was looking for romantic getaway for my beautiful wife’s special birthday and started looking at TA reviews . After much research, I decided to take the queen of my life to a castle…The Fairmount Chateau Frontenac is just the place. I called the hotel and explained to them that this was a very special birthday for my queen and everything needed to be perfect. They assured me it would be. After booking to hotel , I booked our flight with United. I used to hate United but my last couple of flights with them have been spot on. As the date grew closer, I became more excited. I hosted a surprise birthday party for my wife the week before her birthday, which was a huge success. About one week out I received an email, reminding me of my upcoming stay, which was helpful. Our flight arrived into YQB at about 10.40 a.m.,that was 50 minutes earlier than expected time and it was snowing. My wife loves snow and she was very exited because it was snowing and blowing. The valet parking staff was excellent as they quickly attended to us and sent out bags to our room. We walked into the hotel, which was quite festive. There was a lot of people walking around but we quickly found out way. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. You feel like a million bucks the minute you pull up. Since were gold members and was staying on the gold floor, we went straight to the 14th floor to check into our suite. I was somewhat nervous hoping everything would be perfect. We were so early I knew there was no way our room would be ready. We were planning on just dropping our luggage and going for a walk until the room is ready. However, the check in staff, were very attentive and efficient. Out gold concierge informed us the room was ready. We were so surprised. She then informed us due to being a valued member, availability and it being my wife’s birthday that our room was upgraded to the “ the Princess Grace Kelly suite” which is one of the best suites in the hotel. Princess stayed in this room before and there was even some of her things in a glass case in the room. Our room was on the 14th floor which is the same floor as the gold lounge and was quite convenient. More about that later. When we arrived to our room, I lifted my tiny queen and carried her across the threshold as I always do at hotels (A couple of the hotel staff must have seen me as they mentioned it later when we went to the gold lounge. We were amazed at the size, beauty and view. We entered into the foyer which had pictures of princess Grace and a chair she had been photographed sitting on. The chair from the picture was in the room. We wondered into the bedroom into the bedroom which was large and had a blackout drapes. We could see the St. Lawrence River from the bedroom windows as well as downtown and the area leading to old town. Soft music was playing on the bedside radio. The inn size bed was wonderful to sleep in and lounge on. It was soooooo comfortable A+. My wife said normally complains when we sleep in a bed other than ours but she liked this one. There was a safe in the room which was nice for keeping valuables, as well as a full size ironing board, robes, slippers and a longe sofa. There was a separate “living room” which was bigger than the bedroom. It had a coffee table, couch, separate full size bathroom, closet, clothes drawer and yes…more views. Yes! Yes! YES!!!! I thought it was quite appropriate to bring my queen to the princess Kelly room and treat her like true royalty. Needless to say, I was very happy I had chosen this hotel. The TA reviews were right on the money. We had a nice view of the city as well as the river. The room was very quiet and has made just for us. We never heard our neighbor or anyone walking around in the halls. The room and the rest of the hotel was very up-to-date regarding maintenance. I saw no stained or worn carpet, the walls were painted, etc. They were two TVs, which had a large variety of channels to watch. I had complimentary Internet, since I am a club member. Wi-Fi speed was fast. Shortly after arriving to our room, the head bellman delivered out luggage to the room. He was so friendly and professional. He gave us a quick tour of the room and explained how the heating worked, where the safe was and other important things one normally has to figure out on their own. I have never had anyone do that but I was very appreciative of it. Awesome job. Maid service was excellent. They came on time and cleaned everything wonderfully and did a turn down service every night. The gold club staff…man, I cannot say enough good about ALL OF THEM!!!. Give them all a raise. They treat people the way you want to be treated. They without a doubt have been the difference in our stay here. They took good and made it fabulous. Every time we walked through the door, whether morning, noon or night, they knew who we were. The waited on us with such professional ism and kindness. We ate breakfast there which was amazing and Illini. We ate appetizers at 5 pm everyday which was included. And then they nightly deserts at 830 pm….yum yum. My wife likes her coffee just a certain way and several of them went out of their way to make it just the way she wanted. They gave us great pointers on where to go ice skating and tubing. We used the pool one night after a long walk . For a hotel that houses this many people, felt it was too small. Through the week it probably is ok, but on weekends, all we could do was get in. Swimming was impossible. The hotel is large and very spread out. I got my exercise just walking around the hotel with my beautiful queen. I did not mind it. I think it is neat being so big. If you are someone who cannot walk far, you may want to discuss your room location when booking. The elevators are fast I never had to wait for one. The Shops- there are some nice shops in the hotel. They have some very nice high end furs and clothings. We are leaving today, heading back home. It was very relaxing as we spent a lot of time right in our room and at the hotel. The worst part about coming…is having to leave. It has been such a special time with my queen, my best friend, my world. We will talk about it for many years to come. We will return again and it will be of course be Fairmont Chateau Frontenac. Great job to management and staff. To management…Thank you for the very kind gift and birthday note you gave to my wife. Hotel was historic and beautiful. Understaffing caused shortage of available accommodations such as well staffed restaurants, but I recognize that was circumstance and not by design. We did eat at Champlain- I got extremely sick from what I assume were the raw oysters.

Having stayed at the chateau once before, we decided this time to splurge on the Gold package. What a fantastic experience. Not only was the check in a breeze, but the 14th floor lounge made it worth every penny. Gazing out over the city lights while enjoying a cocktail and canapés could only be beat by watching the action on the river while indulging in a sumptuous breakfast. We had a fantastic two night stay.
