Relaxing and comfortable stay for one night only but would be happy to stay longer.

Me my partner and my dog stayed here for a night and had a lovely time. The ground were beautiful and price was good value for money. The only slight issue we had was that we had a late check out at 1pm and had a rude awakening at 9am to a cleaner banging on the door and letting herself in. And the mushrooms on the breakfast were awful ! The rest of it was lovely. Would definitely come back.

Better than Better......... The Staff made it unforgettable !!

From the minute we checked in the staff were 10 out of 10. The hotel in a wonderful location. and The GM who sets a great personal example.. We only live in Solihull, but we are defiantly going back !!!

Lovely setting with vast gardens booked for a birthday treat which we stayed about 6 years ago in the hall, disappointed with room we were in the main hotel this time, felt it needed a makeover and bathroom required re-grouting as there was black mould on the white grouting around the shower. Food was average im afraid to say but staff were helpful and we had excellent weather which made the stay worth it.

Staff argued with each other, no wine, poor selection of Beers

Accommodation wasn't too bad, except the large gap round the door leading to the garden would have been an issue in winter. The staff were inexperienced and kept arguing amongst themselves about what to do. The bar did not have any white wine or champagne. It also had only one type of bitter (several largers). There was a limited set of vegetarian options on the dinner menu.

Could be so much better

The hotel rooms were tired. The food was fantastic but, the service was poor. We went to the bar half an hour before our dinner booking and despite signs saying table service and to sit and wait for our order to be taken, and getting staff attention a couple of times, we waited that full half hour without being able to order a drink. We went to dinner, told the staff of our experience and they really didn’t care. No cocktails available. The Camembert sharing starter had an £8.50 supplement on top of our package yet came with 3 slices of bread for the two of us. We queried this, staff member said she’d dropped one and bought back a pretty sad looking bread roll to add to it. I expect more from a sharing dish, especially when paying a supplement. The pool area numbers didn’t seem to be managed in line with covid as there were a lot of people there by the time we left. Loungers we’re also positioned to make social distancing impossible. The breakfast buffet was incredibly slow - the same person serving the food was also going in search of top ups when the eggs ran out. Also, individually wrapped pastries and fruit yet completely packaging free fruit salad and muffins. Strange to have even an apple wrapped up and get so much unwrapped. The hotel was fine - a real shame it’s in the grounds of such a beautiful Manor House when doesn’t really have much to do with it. It leaves you disappointed from the start! Better trained staff would make a massive difference.

Well located but hotel a let down

Bridget K. Couples - 14/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

The whole place could do with a face-lift, such beautiful grounds let down by cheaply furnished rooms, devoid of character and we were in a "privilege " room. The food was very hit and miss, the cooked breakfast being a particular disappointment. The swimming pool was so hot we couldn't stay, no ventilation, no air con in the rooms either which wasn't helpful as it was very hot when we stayed. Mercure should do much better than this, especially given the fact so many people will be holidaying at home this year. This was our first break this year so feel really let down, and it was my birthday.

Difficult to locate main entrance as Google maps would only direct me to an entrance blocked off by bollards. Had to ask the way several times. Although carpet in the lift would have benefited from a hoover, I was very pleased with my room, spacious, large comfy bed and lots of clean towels in the bathroom, which was a wetroom. Dinner was very good, and service was excellent. When I checked in, I was asked to book breakfast and was told the latest time was 10am. However, the next morning, when I arrived in the dining room, I was told that the kitchen was about to close. I just managed to get some breakfast (sausages and eggs were past their best) and had to ask for some bread for toast and some marmalade as they had already been cleared away.

Disappointed with the menu

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

lovedolphin100 17/09/2020 TripAdvisor review

The spa was a excellent experience and the room was nice and clean but the food was disappointing, the menu was not what I expected from a 4 star hotel. The grounds were lovely and are good for walking.

Thank you for your review, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel. We are pleased to be open now after lock down and the limited menu available is designed to provide popular food that pleases the majority. I am sorry this was not what you expected of the Oranges and Lemons Bar and Restaurant however i am pleased to read that you found the rest of your experience to be agreeable. The menu changes frequently as we edge ever closer to 'normality' and we hope that the bistro style menu will be back soon. Kind regards Joanne

Better than might be expected in the Covid era!

Howard N 14/09/2020 TripAdvisor review

We stayed at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel for two nights, mid-week, on a bed, breakfast and dinner basis. The most striking thing about our visit was the courtesy, good humour and excellent service provided by all the staff that we encounted. Although, some compromises had been made due to the constraints imposed because of Covid-19, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and every effort was made to provide the best possible experience for guests.

Dear Howard, thank you so much for your kind review. I am so pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay and found our team delivered excellent customer service. I am pleased also that the COVID measures did not impact your enjoyment. I hope to welcome you back soon. Kind regards Joanne

Shower broken

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

Shahlakarkouti 26/08/2020 TripAdvisor review

Service in restaurant and bar was good, not great food, breakfast was awful, a packed lunch! Reception compensated us only 10% of the bill because none of us were able to shower. It was broken! Swimming pool was nice and warm but facilities very dated.

Thank you for your comments, all feedback is used to assist us in improving the service and when we can we will ensure that breakfast is put back on as normal (or as near to normal as the guidelines allow). Please accept my apologies for the broken shower and any disappointment caused due to your comments. Kind regards Joanne

Should have gone to Premier Inn

Janet G 18/08/2020 TripAdvisor review

I would not recommend staying until things are totally back to normal. We stayed 3nights and yes we were told that were some changes on cleaning routines however having requested a fan when we checked in and despite a second request I was told there was one at reception I could have, so had to fetch it myself. We requested clean towels for the next day, none were forthcoming so had to approach a cleaner that I was lucky enough to see and get some from her. Same thing for toilet rolls.Leisure facillities only the pool and gym were open with the pool limited to 13 people in hour slots , The pool is not the biggest so when I counted 16 it was time to get out. You can eat there but menu is VERY limited. We have stopped here about 8 years ago but taking Covid into account the standards has slipped immensly

Dear Janet, thank you for your review. As you would be aware the rooms are not serviced during your stay and all refreshed amenities are on request. I am sorry that you found this to be an inconvenience, we are currently working on how we can anticipate these needs and deliver the right things to the rooms before asked and without knowing what you have used. The aim is to not enter your room once it has been occupied to keep our team safe. All current changes to the standards are in place to ensure the safety of our guests and staff. The recommended capacity for our pool is 26, our local hotel policy has been to reduce that by 50% as it seemed to full. i am sorry it went over to 16 whilst you were in the pool efforts will be made to ensure the guests respect the rules in place at the moment. Please accept my apologies that you did not enjoy you experience, i hope you will return in the future to find everything as it was. Kind regards Joanne
