ComplexChris Business - 06/12/2019 TripAdvisor review

This is in dire need of refurbishment both in decor and especially SERVICE. The service in the restaurant and Bar was shocking. Slow, wrong food orders and staff that could not speak English and I do not mean they had strong European accents I am saying they didn't understand me! The waitress could not write my food order and returned twice with items not available. The woman at the Bar did not understand when I asked for a Gin & Tonic???? Hardly a rare request. The furniture in my room was old and peeling. The leather chairs had lost all their leather and exposed the under-fabric. This is a luxury hotel & Spa and it is everything but luxury.

Dear ComplexChris, Please accept my sincere apologies for the disappointing stay you had with us. The hotel is awaiting a further delivery of bedroom furniture to renew the chairs you refer too as part of our ongoing upgrade plans. I am sorry that this had a negative impact on your stay. Kind regards Joanne

Day staff and evening staff like headless chickens. Contrast that with breakfast who were helpful. Asked for an extra bed in room but on returning at 11.30pm no bed. Thankfully night porter was able to sort it out.

We had a great time at Mecure Warwickshire Walton Hall Hotel and Spa. When we arrived our room had a slight fault but we got moved to a better room pretty much straight away. Our new room which was a suite was fantastic with amazing views and a beautiful bathroom. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The only areas of improvement would be the leisure facilities, the steam room, swimming pool area, changing rooms and exercise studio requires updating.

Enjoyable but could have been so much more.

Check in was lacklustre, bar and restaurant were great and warm and friendly. Trek to room alone in the dark after a long journey was not ideal but the map helped. Room was cold, window wouldn't shut, heater cut out as it overheated and air conditioning would blow warm. Having said that after a call to reception at 10 o clock at night two heaters were delivered very quickly and made a wealth of difference to our comfort. Room was very comfortable and bathroom was well appointed apart from the shower door not running well at all and you felt like you were breaking it to shut it. Didn't use the spa pool after reading other reviews but my husband did have a treatment which he said was very good. The main building where we stayed was amazing and so much more could be made of this for hotel guests as opposed to one off events.

Disappointing overall

Our one night stay with treatment was disappointing as the pool and changing room area is tired looking and needs an uplift. The set menu dinner was also not appealing, watery risotto and microwave ravioli mains and a steak that we requested medium rare which came well done. Our food order was slow to arrive so eventually, after the hard working staff in the restaurant apologised we had our wine taken off the bill and I wasn’t charged for the steak supplement. A nice gesture but we would have preferred the correct/ well cooked dishes and would have happily paid for that. Breakfast was very good and the treatments the next day were good because of the staff members attention to detail. The temperature in the treatment rooms needs to be adjusted however as it was too cold

A family weekend stay at Walton Hall Hotel

We recently enjoyed a weekend family stay at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel. While the rooms were comfortable and clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts and pool enjoyable, the very poor standard of the evening meal and the cold showers did put a damper on the experience.

Staff were polite enough, but interaction was functional. Everyone seemed rushed, especially at dinner. Food came quickly but was poor quality and we were not asked how it was at any point. Spa was very tired and dirty in places. Rooms were functional, on a par with premier inn. I expect more from a Mercure hotel

We booked a spa break with massage, dinner and overnight accommodation, when we got there we tried to relax by the pool but the fire alarm was going off every few minutes for hours!! not relaxing!! We then ordered lunch (just sandwiches) and every sandwich was incorrect but we shrugged it off and carried on. Then we had to go for our spa, the massage was great and the girls lovely however one of our party was left waiting 45 mins and it turns out that the lady took someone else in instead of my friend by mistake, then my friend was made to feel uncomfortable as the lady said she would have to try to squeeze her in, then ran out at the end to sort it out with her manager (not relaxing at all - very rushed and then she just left) Then we went back to our rooms and there was no hot water, reception knew there was an issue and said it would be back on later - not ideal as we are all covered in oil and needed a shower but we pushed on, dinner was nice and we went to bed, no heating working in the rooms so it was freezing but looking forward to a hot shower in the morning to thaw out then to find that we still cannot shower as there was still no hot water!! Really not the level of service that we paid for and overall appalling really not the relaxing weekend we were looking for

I booked a wonderful stay for myself and my wife with a spa day on our second day before travelling home. Our stay was no where near what we expected. On arrival our room was not clean. There was Large hairs on the shower wall and even more in the rubber bath mat, disgusting! After this shock we noticed a matted clump of hair under the duvet. There was only one tiny towel and a hand towel on the towel rail for 2 people. The cleaner was outside the room so we asked if she could resolve this she told us she didn’t speak English so i asked her to come in and showed her the problems and then she sorted it. About half an hour after getting into our room we headed down to the spa to checked what time we where expected and sort out our time slots for our treatments. We spoke to the gentleman in reception and gave him our details and receipt for the booking and after about 5 minutes of him flicking around the screens we where told he could see we had paid for the treatments but the booking had not gone allocated any time slots for 2x40 mins treatments x 2 people. We where told they they where full booked but they would try to resolve after about 15 minutes the manager/leader got involved and said they could not fit us in. I explained that I had travelled 2 hours paid for a hotel room and £188 for treatments and that this was not acceptable. I was told what can he do? It was a new computer system and that it was going through teething problems. After some discussions I was asked if could hang around while they tried to resolve after about 15 mins I said we would head back over to the hotel and wait in the bar. We where told that they would send someone over when they had sorted it. After another 45 minutes no one had come over. We headed back to the spa, this had gone on for about 1 & 1/2 hours and we where due to go out in Leamington spa for an evening out and we had no time to get ready piling the pressure on to the stressful situation. The manager said that he had not found a solution and asked us to wait, after 10 mins I just asked for a full refund including the hotel. I was told that he would refund the spa but could not do the hotel as it was a separate company. I told them that this was not my issue and as I had booked the weekend away to enjoy the spa and that the weekend was ruined I wanted a full refund. He told me he would sort the paper work out for the spa and then call the hotel for them to sort their side. Once we competed the paperwork for the spa I was told the refund would be processed next week by accounts. I questioned this, after all that had happened I had to wait for a refund and trust it would be processed when they didn’t process my spa booking, no thanks. I requested a card refund and was told this could not be done. I explained this is done all the time so why couldn’t they? Eventually it was agreed by the spa manager and the hotel that the hotel would process the refund and claim the back of the spa. The hotel reception told me At least the spa manager has resolved it, did he really? No he had just gave me back my money, no compensation Or refund for the hotel and most importantly NO APOLOGY from anyone. With panic setting in about our evening arrangements about to go up in tatters as well due to about 2 hours of our weekend wasted sorting this we decided to stay at the hotel and try and salvage what we could. The only thing I would recommend was the breakfast it was really nice and the road marked exit! The customer service in dealing with this was appalling

Everything was excellent, other than the bar service. 1 person on the bar who kept wandering off and when he was there he was very very slow. We watched 2 people give up and leave, rather than wait. I nearly did the same

Not very impressed, fire alarm went off in the apartment at 3 am and it took an hour for this to be shut off. The staff did not seem very apologetic, and even tho the fire alarm came back on again after half an hour they didn’t seem bothered in trying to get us moved. After sending an email to the manager to say we were disappointed I did get an apologetic email back and said we would get a refund, but not heard anything since!

A little disappointing compared to previous stays

Amy Business - 02/12/2019 Confirmed reviews ALL

Wouldn’t rate it a good as previous stays. I was staying in orchard mews which is separate to the main building. This meant cold, dark walks by myself for dinner and breakfast. Also couldn’t make use of the facilities as it was too far away for someone by themselves, had I been with someone else I may have been ok. Building had some issues 1st morning I was awoken by a fire alarm for it go off once i had put my boots and coat on. No member of staff came round to make sure everyone was ok so I just preceded to breakfast. The second morning as I was changing all the electric switches off in the room as if something had tripped being alone this was quite scary. I would also mention that better cleaning needs to take place my room still had cobwebs on the walls and ceiling which didn’t give a great 1st impression but also seemed like the floor hadn’t be vacuumed either. Lastly, I was feeling rather let down that when I returned after a days work my tea and milk hadn’t been topped up in the bedroom meaning I had to ask for more when I went to dinner. The receptionist didn’t understand what I had asked for initially as English was quite poor but then said she could get me tea bags but I would have to ask at the bar for milk as they don’t have the little pots of UHT that were already in the rooms. I thought this was strange as where do they come from then to be put in the room in the first place. Anyway I proceeded to the bar where I was given a takeaway expresso cup filled with fresh milk to take back. This was quite challenging and bizarre in my eyes as I had to take this up and downstairs and walk around the building to get to where I was staying whilst trying hard not to spill it. Then next though that crossed my mind was where they expected me to store this as the rooms have no fridges, alas I settled for leaving it on the side by the kettle but not very good considering it was fresh milk I was given. One more point I didn’t particularly like was the removal of the set 3 course dinner for those with this package included. Instead it is now picking from the menu to the value of £20 which in all honesty will just get you a main course as the pricing isn’t reflective of the 3 course option. Also bizarre how 1 night I had a main, pudding and glass of coke and was told it was all included, the next night I had exactly the same and was charged £3.20 for the glass of coke despite my food coming tot the same price it did the night before, how can it be so different depending on the staff? In all a very disappointing stay to previous experiences and I feel somewhat let down by Mercure.

Had a good visit - in particular enjoyed the pool and service at our private evening meal was great. Bar service was inexcusably slow and childrens desserts did not arrive - after 30 mins (and tears) we eventually found out that the staff member hadn't passed the order to the kitchen. We just gave up. On the second night we stayed there was an additional, more competent, member of staff so things were better. Almost everyone in our group commented on the speed of service - it became a standing joke. Service in the restaurant and during our private meal was great. Didn't report, but both toilets in our appartment were broken - constant running water throughout our stay which was noisy in the small hours.

The cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired. Telephone had all kinds of Staines on it. Desk chair was falling apart with ripped covering. Having to wolf outside to get from room to bar in the pouring rain was another disappointment.
