Our racing club held their AGM and awards night here. Paid extra for early check-in, by the time we'd got to the front of the queue it was barely worth the effort and expense because I had 15 minutes to spare before the start of the meeting. Bought a bottle of cider at the bar, was charged £50.60 for it instead of £5.60. Noticed the overpayment on my banking app, so returned to the bar. Now this was the only point where this hotel excelled - the lady serving realised the error and had tried to find me but couldn't because I was in a meeting, so when I returned to the bar they were aware. Spoke with the managers who offered me to stand in a very long queue at reception to correct their staff error. I politely declined as had to go and sit down for dinner. Dinner - I was happy with what I had (duck, curry and cheesecake) however the people on the table who had the chicken said it was dry with soggy skin, barely any veg, barely any food at all really. Bread rolls were served but there weren't enough for everyone to have one each. I returned to reception between main and desserts because given the slow speed of service I had plenty of time (we had eaten our mains and tidied our plates up before some even received theirs). Upon getting to reception the lady had not got a clue how to issue a refund and asked me who the manager is at the hotel? Err, I don't work there..... She then suggested that I went back to sort it out for a third time.... Luckily the managers came into view and it was refunded, but not straight away - I 'should receive it in the next seven days'. Not really good enough when their error and I need fuel to drive back to Essex. The remainder of the evening passed with only having to chase tea and coffee and trying to find an open bar (bar staff in the function room were sending people to the main bar for certain things, but it was closed). The breakfast in the morning was decent. However that was not the end of the debacle. Walked back to one of the furthest rooms away from breakfast to find that our room keys no longer worked. It wasn't even check out time. I asked one of the cleaning ladies if it was possible to let me into my room and she was rather rude telling me to go to reception. Trek back to reception to join the small queue of other people having to do the same thing. In all honesty, for the £95 I paid for two for b&b, it wasn't all that. The room was clean, there was a pool and gym but did not have time to use it. Breakfast decent and plenty of parking. Would not stay there again. Not worth the money and service overall poor.

The room was absolutely amazing. It was spacious providing ample room to kick back and relax. It had a comfortable bed, a decent size TV perfect for watching your favorite shows or movies, a desk and chair as well as an iron and ironing board and a mural on the wall. The hotel lobby was large enough to play baseball in. Not quite but it was impressively large. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The food served in the Fuel bar was delicious. I was pleased to see a wide selection of food on the menu. There is free high speed WiFi available at this hotel. The WiFi runs in all areas of the hotel so you can access the internet while working in your room or relaxing in the bar. Not only does this hotel welcome human guests but it welcomes canine guests as well. Your dog will love it here. If you are traveling by car then you are in for a treat. There are two, large, free car parks at this hotel.

The hotel was nice and clean, however, I have visited Mercure chain across UK and it seems that other hotels with the same star rating have better facilities. Staff was nice, hotel was clean. There was no Nespresso coffee, no robe, no slippers which is normally offered acroos the other Mercure hotels in UK. such as Waltham Mercure in Warwickshire.

I stayed here for business on the 19/11/2023 from the minute I walked in no one was in sight, no customers no staff. I thought the whole hotel was closed. I walked into the hotel bar which had the atmosphere of your local morgue to be then Served a pint of Stella in a Guinness glass which made it immediately flat. When I got to the room it had similar charm to the rooms at HMP Rye Hill, no Air con no heating. Hairs all over the bathroom floor. The bed was like sleeping on a brick and was periodically woken up by that and the bloke next door coughing. Next time I’d rather stay in a hostel, at least you know what you’re paying for before you get stitched up.
