We booked a Junior Suite with a walk in shower. when we arrived the only 2 junior suites they have contain a bath with a shower over. As this was acceptable we accepted a privilege room, only to find the fridge did not work. Having brought drinks with us we asked for the fridge to be replaced. Following numerous conversations, about moving us to another room the follwoing day with a working fridge and requesting buckets of ice twice, which eventually arrived 45 minutes after asking. The rooms have just a wardrobe to put clothes in. No drawers to put socks, underwear etc in. Safe is in the bottom of the wardrobe making it difficult to see into. The hotel is worn the reception staff look untidy in un-ironed shirts. Joe from reception was lovely and tried her best to help.

From the outset of this review, I would like to make it very clear that we were very grateful and honoured for the free upgrade upon check in and would like to make note of the exemplary service that Mr David Crockford offered us when we were encountering a number of issues with our room. He is a credit to your hotel and indeed your company group as a whole. The hotel location is great for the city centre and the public transport links but this comes at a cost. The noise within the room we were located in (Junior Suite, room 110, directly above the main entrance on the first floor) was unbearable at times. Traditional sash windows are not designed for modern life and peoples ignorance and rudeness, so we were treated to an awful nights sleep thanks to the noise from passing pedestrians, the deep bass music from the local pub and rowdy guests entering the premises late at night / early in the morning. The room was not properly cleaned and we had to request the reception staff remove the previous occupants rubbish while also having to ask the reception staff to replenish the refreshments that were supposed to be in the room and were not. Some of these refreshments were also not available due to "delivery problems" (Nescafe coffee pods for example). The room was very spacious but slightly tired and dated but the noise from the neighbouring room was also quite loud. The beds were very firm and quite uncomfortable so this is something else that could be improved. The public realm of the hotel is clean and tidy and quite grand making you feel like you've stepped back in time (in a good way!) and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Its a lot to ask, but modernising and sound proofing these higher end rooms is a must if you expect people to pay good money to stay in them. I'd be slightly more irate about my stay if I had paid the prices being asked for these suites compared to the quality of my stay in it.

The breakfast team, and Lidia especially were outstanding. The hotel location is superb and potential is fantastic, but the rooms are very dated and in need of money spending to upgrade there quality.

There was a Disco till midnight on the Saturday of our stay - it shook the room! No sleep till it was finished. Also, there was no heating in the room (Radiator not working - don't they check these things as part of maintenance?), eventually provided with an electric heater - not much use really and, frankly, based on their poor upkeep of heating I was not prepared to leave it on unattended, which meant returning to a cold room. I reported all this to the Hotel but received have no response, very poor customer service.

Would normally give 5 stars as we always get great treatment from the staff. The only reason we gave 4 is we would have liked our breakfast brought to our room as I am disabled and my husband has nerve damage which makes carrying trays difficult but we do understand that there is a staff shortage.
