We really enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Rougemont in Exeter. It is perfectly placed and benefits from some great independent bars and cafes close by. We found the staff to be incredibly helpful and cheerful and look forward to a return visit later in the year. It was good to see that the hotel has had some redecoration since our last visit a couple of years ago.

Decent accommodation is hard to come by in the U.K, so we're very happy to say we were impressed with our stay at Mercure. Our King Privilege room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a comfortable king bed and great shower. The staff were lovely and the hotel is centrally located. Perfect stay for our trip to Exeter over NYE. Highly recommend!

Lots of good things about this hotel - lovely staff, parking and a fab breakfast. However we have had issues with bedding twice now. This time there was a mattress protector but it was very stained and apparently pillow protectors are not supplied by the company as a given. The duty manager sorted out our issues brilliantly - thank you Kat

Lovely but rather noisy

The room was wonderful with a very comfortable bed and an amazing shower room. Our only complaint was that it was overheated which meant that we had to open the window at night, allowing all the noises of the street to disturb us. The next day we turned the radiator down so that we wouldn't be overheated again, but on returning to the room later we found that the radiator had been put back up to the original level. This meant another disturbed night.

The plus The hotel was very good. The location unbetterable. The downside. The 4th. floor had to many stairs and a long way from the lift. The fan heater had an odour about it. If we came again we would refuse the 4th. floor.

Great place, mediocre mattress

pros: Lovely room, good and trustable room service, great bar staff, great location. cons: lobby snack corner about 4x more expensive than local shop, lobby toilets in disrepair, bed sheets weren't changed during stay, only made up.

We have stayed at the Mercure Exeter for a number of years. It offers excellent service and accommodation right in the centre of Exeter. Staff are always friendly and helpful.

Pleasant but could be improved

Pleasant staff but the room was far too hot, bedding was ripped and towels smelt like vinegar. For it being mid winter we slept with both the window open and fab on full as the room was so warm.

The best Mercure hotel we have ever stayed in.

The staff were most welcoming and efficient. The atmosphere in the hotel was cheerful and positive, our room and its facilities very nice. We intend to use this hotel again.

Friendly, courteous staff, but disappointing reaction to solving guests' problems.

John T. Families - 31/12/2019 Confirmed reviews ALL

Rooms, breakfast, and facilities were fine (except as specified below) and the location is highly convenient. There were 2 problems: the wi fi didn't work on my I Pad, and the hot water supply was woefully inadequate. When I raised these problems, staff were courteous and friendly but were not able to solve the problems. They explained the technical reasons that caused the difficulty, rather than approaching it from the guest's experience. When a guest has had a long and difficult journey ( in my case 8 hours of train travel with multiple delays) and wants a relaxing bath, it doesn't help much to have a description of the plumbing technicalities. It seems that my room was at the end of a long run of pipes and if other rooms nearby are not using hot water, it takes a long time for the supply to reach the room in question. A long time meant 5 full minutes and a bath full of water being run off. Annoying at the best of times, but especially so IF NO PRIOR WARNING HAD BEEN GIVEN. I naturally assumed there was a major fault, as it is unusual to stay the least to need to run off approx 50 litres of water before anything useful comes through the tap! I was offered a reduction of £20 off my bill in compensation, which I accepted. But many guests in the circumstances would have demanded more and kicked up a bigger fuss, As I said, the staff were perfectly courteous. But there seems to be a training issue here, on how best to approach problems raised by guests. Get staff to see problems from the guest viewpoint, and not to assume that an explanation of the reasons for the problem will suffice. After all, that bit is the hotel's problem!

My room was very clean and comfortable, my first day I asked for breakfast in my room, the breakfast delivered was very nice but very large portions. The next morning I went to the restaurant downstairs for breakfast, I have a walker to support me being 90. Sadly no one was able to assist me at all, very few staff and I could not collect my breakfast let alone carry it to a table. So when my daughter collected be that morning I had no breakfast at all. Provision needs to be made for disabled people, it’s very frustrating that the the hotel expect all clients are fit and able.

Good, but could be better

The parking is problematic, but I understand it’s central, so other options are available. The hotel was ridiculously hot, even after turning off the radiator and opening the window , it remained hot and we spent the first few hours sleeping with no covers. The breakfast is a simple Travelodge style affair, not worth he extra £10 per head. Food was good though. On the plus side, staff were excellent, accommodation was very good and overall a very pleasant stay.
