I am a great fan of the IBIS concept. All the things you need and nothing you don't want. The air conditioning worked reasonably well. Good wardrobe space and tea/coffee making facilities. Always a plus. We enjoyed a complimentary beverage in the bar, and although I rarely use a TV in a hotel, the screen was ideal for catching up on the Australian Open. On the other hand, you have to crane your neck to shave in the mirror, and the carpets could do with a good clean both in the room and also the common areas. Most of all, though, the windows are long overdue for cleaning. Note that bed is a queen, not a king. Overall recommended.

Others might not like it, ie no work desk, min size in the cheaper rooms... But its quiter as off main st, but other guests doof doof is audible. Easy checkin, I think less preautho. Bit harder to find. But I love it. Upper more modern than Mercure on Therry, but its more closer to Melbourne Central basement that has a Coles, ... Also closer to trains. No tram noise. Very very muted outside noise. No buskers which is as big huge plus. Has onsite eatery, but its a nit yoo expensive, breakfast not included in nightly rate, ie they charge lots more fof it. But as I said Coles not far. No hard chair to work on a very tiny small ledge, naybe enough for s mini laptop or a tablet. Has usb charger on left of bed but not near ledge. Bearable if working very light, bug not for lots of paperwork work.

I have used this Ibis hotel 3 times this year , Feb, Jul and Dec for a stopover after my flight from Athens Greece, before returning home to Adelaide the next day. I like everything about this hotel , a good quality guest computer, great restaurant, impeccable room, convenient location, Professional staff and not least, essential for me a late checkout, for which I am most appreciative . I would like to take this opportunity to mention two long standing exceptional staff members that make the check in process a pleasure even after a 23 hour flight from Europe. Harshita and Suttida, both Reception GSA, Professional, intelligent and welcoming with charming personalities.

Perfect base for solo travellers to explore Melbourne!

This is a great base for exploring the city. The compact double room is the perfect size for a solo traveller and my room was modern and very clean. But the highlight is definitely the amazing location — the entrance is literally a minute’s walk from Hardware Lane and 5 mins from Melb Central! Great value for money as well. Will definitely stay here again when I’m next in town!

Good value for money but not enough staff available

I’ve stayed here a few times and find it good value for money, given the central location in Melbourne. The rooms are compact but clean and functional. I don’t like that the hotel pushes you to check in with self-service kiosks that do not recognise any of your Accor status benefits or provide any information about the hotel. For example, I have Platinum Accor status which includes breakfast, but the check-in kiosk asked if I wanted to add breakfast for $50. At the time I checked in, there was only one staff member working at the neighbouring Novotel reception and a very long line. The ALL priority checkin desk was unattended. This isn’t really enough staff. Finally, the hotel sends you a WhatsApp message after you check in and out which seems like a personal message from a human, as it says “I hope your check-in went smoothly. It is great to have you with us at Ibis Melbourne Central. How is everything with your room? …” But when I replied to this message with a question, I got no reply. Perhaps the hotel should make it clearer that this message comes from a bot if that’s the case.
