A winter week in Paradise

As soon as we landed at Male we were met and escorted to the lounge to await our flight to Kooddoo…and that was just the start of fantastic service and attention from everyone at the Mercure…our villa (524) was well looked after by Robiul ( great towel and bed art..thank you!), our personal Host Khan ( great job, again thank you)..simply every member of the resort staff were charming and friendly..providing a welcome as warm as the sunshine we enjoyed during our week’s stay. I am writing this in the pool bar waiting for our return flights home and once again everything is being organised for us..no stress! We saw the chefs at the Alita and Vista restaurants and expressed our appreciation for the wonderful quality and variety of the foods on offer during our stay. Now…a particular shout out for Rena ( great massage ), Poppy ( whose delightful smile was worth the trip just on its own), Jo-Ann ( for her lovely interaction with us), Pradeep in the pool bar ( whose smile was only just eclipsed by Poppy’s and who made my husband wonderful rum and diet cokes!) and his colleague Gilbert ( who made almost as many rum and cokes too!) I am sorry I cannot remember every member of staff but each one deserves a huge thank you for making our stay in Paradise precisely that….paradise.

Mercure Resort Kooddoo was fantastic. We had completed a full on 12 day tour of SriLanka and this was exactly what we needed to relax before we headed home. We chose a beach villa which was bigger and better than the impression we had from the photos. All villas are stand alone so no adjoining walls and very quiet. We were very content to snorkel and swim out from our little beach and enjoy the afternoons on the deck of our villa. We chose the all inclusive package which was great. The food at the buffet restaurant was very good and the Italian restaurant Vista, over the water was wonderful. There was a great selection of food and drink to choose from. The staff were delightful and went to great lengths to make us feel welcome going above and beyond for my husbands birthday. Our flight to Kooddoo was a late one so we missed an afternoon and sunset, but made it in time for the dinner service. My advice would be to make sure you’re in Male’ for the earlier flight if possible to maximise your time on the island paradise. Similarly we were told we needed to be on the 5.00am flight out which we declined and chose to take the 9.00am to get our connecting flight. I don’t believe you can book specific flights to and from the island, but if you are in Male’ earlier in the day for the inbound flight you have a better chance of arriving earlier. Having said that the complimentary lounge facility at Male airport was pretty good. Overall a nice vibe and very relaxing. Yes we’d go back again!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome and happy to assist with any needs. The food was out of this world. Amazing and fresh. Only let down was water sports it was impossible to get hold of anyone there to book a dive or organise anything . We went round early to be told they opened at 830. We went back at 830 to a sign that said back at 4. We missed 2 days snorkelling. So we had to buy a mask and snorkel at 100 us dollars and wasn'table to get fins to the 3rd day.even then we had to barge in on a course and demand a set. If I could suggest maybe have someone man the desk for hiring of snorkelling gear and water sports bookings. As I missed out on 2.5 days snorkelling and on dives altogether. We spoke to many other guests and they had the same issues. Don't get me wrong besides that koodoo is the most amazing place on the planet and everyone else was amazing. Thankyou for our amazing stay for our anniversary. We will be back . Thanks Matt and kimlee
