We travel in our professional lives and stay at 40+ business-class hotels for probably 150 nights (at least) in the USA every year. I'd stay at Mercure (if we had them in the US) before I stayed at any lower or mid-level Hilton or Marriott property. On check in, the staff were welcoming and engaged. In the US, they are mostly very jaded or not appearing to care one way or the other. Seem to lack training in basic human social skills. The room was comfy and very importantly, quiet.

the persons at the reception were not friendly. They didn't know the Accor ambassador program which normally gives an upgrade of room, welcome drink and free breakfast. I'm a BCD travel agent and booked through the Accor travel agency website (https://travelpros.accor.com). The receptionist told us that we didn't book through the Accor website. It's strange that receptionists aren't aware of their own products.
