Avoid...avoid ... avoid.... booked for a function... function room fusty, had to open fire doors to let dry air in... Not much of a staff presence or welcome, food was OK, average, sandwiches etc but the big negative was the damp/fusty atmosphere... uncomfortable and unpleasant to be breathing in same.

Nice welcome from reception. Room upstairs on 2nd floor. Lift only goes to first floor so you have to drag cases up again. Room was freezing as no heating on. Central heating not working but found oil filled radiator under table. It kept turning off so on our way out for the afternoon/evening I asked reception to put in another heater, and turn it on. On our return at around 9.30 p.m. the room was freezing and no extra heater. I went to reception and was told staff member took a heater up but we were out. I pointed out that I gave permission for them to enter. I was told they did not have a pass key! I asked to be moved to a warm room as my husband has Parkinsons and could not spend the night in a cold room. We were given a room on the other side of the building, which again was cold but we were able to use central heating and portable heater to get it warm. Breakfast was not good. Most cooked items were cold and eggs like rubber. The condition of the whole place is terrible. Rotting woodwork, black mould in bathrooms, everything old and tatty. The same staff members popped up all over so obviously not a lot of them on duty. Having said all that, we have stayed in quite a few different hotels in the last 18mths and most are the same.

Great staff and wonderful sights over the moors, loved it as close by to all the high streets, parking was easy and accessible for disable people. When I’m back in the UK I’ll stay there again, Staff were great at helping you and nothing was too much.

Thank you Mercure, had a great stay with you. Called before arrival to ask some questions, Sylvia on reception has been very helpful, informative and she allocated my room better then I could imagine. She welcomed me upon arrival as I arrived earlier and that wasn't problem at all. Been offered help with bags and taken to room. Evening meal and service was really good also. Beds very comfortable. Thank you again. Your team members are very respectful, friendly and helpful. Will be coming back soon.
