I was expecting better from a Mercure

The room was grubby, and smelt of damp. The toilet was broken, so the cistern kept filling and emptying all night. The room heating wasn't working, so they provided a plug in heater, which was broken. The pillows were flat. Really not a nice stay.

No investment

The hotel is in dire need of investment the rooms are dated and grubby. Stains all over the carpets double bed was 2 singles pushed together including mattresses should have been a double mattress at least. No ability to heat the room constantly cold even with thermostat up to full. Bathroom tiles have holes poorly filled in and filler discoloured. The grout between the tiles is yellowing. The shower is fine as long as you're under 5ft 5in at 5ft 8in I had to crouch to wash my hair. Table service at the bar is slow and inefficient had to wait 20 minutes to be served understandable if the bar was busy but it wasn't. Staff were slow and disinterested. Food was overcooked and not great quality. For £92 a night this hotel is not worth the money. The prosecco offered on checkin for a review of the check in process written by Deep (I assume he is the hotel manager trying to boost positive reviews) was not worth it. There was also a wheel to spin to get another drink amongst other things my spin landed on the mega prize which was to add a number if points to the loyalty program but he moved it to free drink which I never got not that I'm fussed about as it was cheap prosecco and I don't drink prosecco. The bar area looks like it's been refurbished within the last 10 years but badly needs redoing it's already dated. The outside of the hotel looks recently cleaned and maintained well but thats about the only positive I have. The location was convenient for where I needed to be. Definitely would not be staying there again.

Not a bad stay

Not a bad stay but lots of improvements to the room can be made. The room was freezing although AC turned off and heating turned on. Rooms need to be brought back to life as it is very out dated. The bathroom had mould on ceilings which should be dealt with

A good stay, but a few issues.

johnofhornchurch Couples - TripAdvisor review

My wife and I have just stayed here for three nights. The hotel is ideally located, next to Piccadilly Gardens tram and bus stations. The staff, especially on reception, are helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble: an extra pillow or teabags. Delivered straight away. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. I loved the sausages. Others have commented on the coldness of the restaurant and public areas. It was quite cool. The weather was mild during our stay, so I would imagine that during the cold weather last week, it was worse. The room was nicely decorated with plenty of storage space. Luckily, nobody seemed to be staying in the room next door, but when people were in there, you could hear them talking. So perhaps the walls are thin. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The cleaning was adequate, but a few things were amiss: the bins were not always emptied, nor the tea replenished (we like our tea). I prefer a walk in shower with a shower hose, rather than a bath and fixed shower, as is here. The 55 inch TV is perhaps too large for the room, although there are plenty of channels. Wi-fi coverage was fine. These few niggles have meant that I have awarded three stars instead of four. Manchester is a lively city, quite compact, with plenty to see and do. Well worth visiting

Dear John, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your recent stay with us. I’m pleased to hear that you found our location convenient and appreciated the friendly and helpful service from our reception team. It’s great to know you enjoyed the varied breakfast and had a comfortable night's sleep. I appreciate your constructive comments regarding the temperature in the public areas, the room amenities, and cleaning services. I’ll share your feedback with our team to ensure improvements are made, particularly regarding replenishments and bin servicing. Your thoughts on the room design and facilities, such as the shower and TV size, are also noted and will be considered as we work on enhancing guest experiences. We’re glad you enjoyed exploring Manchester and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an even more enjoyable stay in the future. Best regards, Deep Shah Guest Relations Manager

Leaking shower, cold dining room

Compared to my stay a few years ago, my stay was very disappointing. The room was small, windows were dirty, shower flooded tge room and fan was noisy. The worst was the dinning room. It was cold and had to have breakfast with my winter coat on. DISGRACEFUL.

Dear David, Thank you for your feedback. I am sincerely sorry to hear that your recent stay did not meet your expectations, especially when compared to your previous experience. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the issues you encountered, including the leaking shower, cold dining room, and the condition of your room. I understand how frustrating it must have been to have to endure a cold dining room and the shower flooding the room. I can assure you that these issues are being investigated with urgency to ensure they are addressed, and we are taking steps to improve the comfort of our rooms and the dining experience. I have also noted your comments about the Wi-Fi speed and the need for an additional chair in the room, and I will make sure that this feedback is passed on to the relevant teams. I am glad to hear that you found our staff polite and helpful, and I will certainly share your positive remarks with them. Your concerns are important to us, and we will work on improving the areas you mentioned. Kind regards Olivia Guest relations manager
