Enjoyed the stay however the service in the restaurant at dinner time very poor. No problem at breakfast. The room we were in was a family room and although we were there for five nights there was no room to hang up our clothes only room for seven hangers .

Felt let down by food and room

I had requested a room with lift access or ground floor - this was not given as no lifts! Advised of 15 stairs to ascend, was this ok? Room was tired with worn carpet and stained chairs, also was given a disabled walk in shower which seemed funny on a first floor room. Had dinner on 2 nights and was not happy with food at all, overcooked, tasteless and not at all satisfactory for this standard of hotel. Breakfast was much better, afternoon tea was ok. Staff were lovely, especially Tina at breakfast who really made a wonderful effort to engage and go out of her way to provide excellent service. The meal on the 2nd evening was the worst, chicken katsu curry with overcooked rice (boil in the bag?) and curry sauce which tasted as though it was out of a jar! If at this standard of hotel you have a chef that cannot cook rice or make a curry sauce, you have a problem. It was a good value deal we had for the price, but we would not stay here again. Restaurant prices were expensive and the quality was just not good enough. Hotel in a beautiful setting but did not live up to Mercure reputation or standard expected.

The staff at the Mercure were lovely. However, I was disappointed there were no tea and coffee facilities in my room. I struggled with being on the top floor as my mobility is not great but when I booked it, I didn't see the option to state this. I visited the hotel the week before, however, I paid £16 more the week after. Also the WIFI signal wasn't great and I had to hotspot from my work phone.

This is something that is out of our control. Rates reflect on events that could be happening around the area. We do apologize that when booking the room it did not give you the option to request a lower room. This we will look into to ensure that future guests do not have this issue.
