I will start off by saying this hotel looks nothing like the photo's - it's very misleading. Reception was dark and dirty and not what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. I'd booked a double room for me and my wife to stay as we were seeing a show in town. I wasn't expecting anything fancy however, I'd expect something that looks similar to the photo I was shown on my confirmation. I'd describe our room as something you'd experience in a 2 star B&B. I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel room with a double bed pushed against the wall, so you have to climb over one another to get out. Madness. It was like being back in my childhood bedroom(although that was much cleaner). The room was tiny and dirty - the bed springs were almost coming through and they'd attempted to make this 'better' by putting a tiny mattress topper over. There were also stains on the duvet from previous guests. We left through the night and drove home. We stay in a lot of hotels and I wouldn't usually post photos however, I felt I had to on this occasion.

Not quirky, grotty

We were visiting the Motorpoint Arena and wanted to stay somewhere other than our usual haunts, and saw this hotel at a fairly decent price for a 4*hotel. However, we have been left incredibly disappointed. From the outside it looks quaint, but on entering it seemed quite dark and gloomy, to the point where the reception team struggled to see our reservation, although they were very friendly and helpful. On entering our room....and I use the word room very loosely, because I've seen broom cupboards which are bigger and cleaner, we were completely astounded by how small the room is, and I mean it was really tiny. We opened the door to the room and fell onto the bed. You could quite literally open the door with your feet whilst lying in bed. The mirror attached to the wall was cracked and taped up with black and red safety warning tape!! As for the bathroom....I sat on the toilet and took a trip around it's tiny confines because it was barely attached to the porcelain. The door handle was hanging loose, and when I used the hot water tap it remained ice cold until the sink was full of water, which then resolutely decided to stay for approx 6 minutes despite no plug being used. Some people might call all of these issues quirky, but for a 4* star hotel, how on earth did this hole get that.

Limited appeal.

City centre hotel that falls below what is expected in a 4# hotel. The Reception area is really small with no seating area. The staff though were very good and helpful during our stay. The rooms were pretty average. The only available public area to sit however is a tiny bar area on the first floor that is actually closed two nights every week leaving no public space at all in the hotel! The breakfast served were average.

Despite booking well in advance we were allocated a small room directly above a stack of extractor units, the noise from which disturbed us through the night. The mattress was in need of replacement with a large dip to the middle,

Dear Richard, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Nottingham City Centre George Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. With regards to how rooms are allocated. The time prior to the date of arrival bares no relevance to how we allocate a room. Upon arrival we look at arrival rooms for check in at that point in time and a room is allocated from the rooms available. I am sorry should the room chosen for you not have been to your liking. I can see you had chosen to book one of our smallest room grades, a Standard King. Standard Kings are considered one of our two smallest room grades with our City Pad rooms being larger. Should the room not have been to your liking, shortly after checking in we welcome any guest coming to speak to us should they not be satisfied for any reason. Our team would have been delighted to see if an alternative vacant room of the same room category was available for you to view and to see if it was to your liking. Our team are more than happy to help where possible and I am sorry we did not have this opportunity. I apologise for any discomfort experienced from the mattress. I thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will immediately have this checked to see if a replacement is required. I apologise once again. At Mercure, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. In January we are starting our complete hotel refurbishment which will be a 100% refurbishment once completed later in the year. I very much hope we can welcome you back to experience this. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Kindest regards Chris Butler General Manager

Booked the king suite in the Nottingham City centre location for two nights for my birthday. We booked directly, which made the price more than fair value. The room was lovely: clean, comfortable, and quirky in a way that we both absolutely adored. We especially liked having the bath to come back to after a lot of walking around the city. The building is beautiful, and really made the whole stay feels special. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and I thought the location was excellent. Everything we wanted to visit was in easy walking distance, and it was easy to come back to the room to drop things off or just have a quiet sit down for 5 minutes. Will definitely be staying again

Dear Hol, Thank you so very much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback and the completed questionnaire. It really is a pleasure to receive such positive feedback and scores like yours. If you have a moment Hol we would be extremely grateful and thankful if you could share your feedback on our TripAdvisor page so the TripAdvisor community can also see your comments. Leaving a review here really does help us as a hotel and indeed possible future guests who are thinking about staying with us. The link to click to do so is: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g186356-d189742-Reviews-Mercure_Nottingham_City_Centre_Hotel-Nottingham_Nottinghamshire_England.html And / or you can do so on Google reviews: https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=ChIJneK97dXDeUgRJ3xPA1EtCK0 Sadly, happy guests are less likely to leave reviews so we would be honestly most grateful if you could do this for us. Mentioning anyone’s name who stood our also really helps us. If you can forward to any guest who you believe would also do this for us, I would be so appreciative. Positive reviews help hotels out more than most guests realise. I will also share your comments with my team. I have no doubt that your comments and suggestions provided in your questionnaire will serve as an encouragement to all of the team as we all strive to continuously improve the quality of our service. Thank you once again Hol for sharing your experience and for having chosen to stay with us. I genuinely hope your next stay with us or indeed with any other Mercure Hotel / Accor hotel will be as pleasant as the previous one. With kindest regards Chris Butler General Manager
