Tired and shabby - a real disappointment

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

SisPerth TripAdvisor review

We’d had higher hopes for our stay at this hotel but sadly we were quite disappointed by many aspects of it. We booked a ‘superior’ room but the only thing that really fitted that description was the spaciousness of the room. It was generously proportioned and quite well laid out but other than that it was one of the tiredest and shabbiest rooms I’ve seen in a while. Everything was clean enough but the carpet was stained quite extensively, there were many (and large) marks over most of the walls, the curtains were kind of hanging at the edges. Two mugs of different sizes and two water glasses of different sizes gave more the feel of a cheap motel. We had to ask for sugar when we first checked in, as there was none, and there were only two English Breakfast teabags, which were never replenished for the remainder of our three day stay. The room was noisy – from both inside and outside the hotel. We could clearly hear people speaking in the corridors and other nearby rooms; and the noise of traffic and passing pedestrians from outside was quite bothersome too. On our last morning, there was no hot water (oh boy, a cold shower is guaranteed to wake you up for the day’s journey!). When we asked about this at check out we were told that the water heater had ‘blown out’ overnight – assuming this meant the gas flame? For a hotel of this size and alleged quality, we couldn’t quite fathom that! The couple of staff members we encountered seemed friendly enough, no complaints there. But overall this establishment does nothing positive for the Mercure brand and we definitely won’t stay there again.

Great two bedroom apartment

Stayed one night in a two bedroom apartment. Very clean and comfortable, checkin process smooth and easy. Apartment would be ideal for an extended stay. Well located and close to lots of restaurants and cafes, as well as an excellent distillery.

Dining staff exceptional

Bar and dining staff were perfect hosts. Food was delicious. Room was very clean and tidy. Would have been five stars but... Concierge staff extremely rude, unhelpful. Even to an 80 year old lady, barely answered her request, dismissive and did not bother to try and assist.

Absolutely grand.

A great Nights stay. Lovely bed, great shower and incredible breakfast. Staff are bloody fantastic and having a beer out the front at the end of the day I was hit with the aromas wafting from the Indian restaurant across the road. OMG, just beautiful and next trip to Mildura I’ll be dining there. Fantastic service in the room is Google Chrome on the phone so I was able To view shows from any of my streaming services… Netflix, Stan, Disney, Prime, Kayo. Oh and you might think it’s healthier to use the stairs but using the heritage listed lift is a fun experience.

Very poor service responses. Toilet brush sitting in faeces riddled water. Broken shower tap etc etc

Stayed two nights. We were incredibly disappointed with this hotel. We chose the most expensive in Mildura thinking we would be staying at the best of the best. In the toilet, we found the toilet brush sitting in 8cm of filthy, faeces riddled water. On advising the front desk I was advised "We cant contact the cleaning staff can you find them and let them know?" That took 15 minutes up on the 2nd floor, after which the toilet brush was replaced with one that can be purchased at K-Mart for $2.00 (and this in a $185 per night room). Then, having a shower, the heavy shower tap fell off landing on my foot. Ouch. Again, reporting to front desk only to find the response was to have someone slip the tap back onto the shaft... and of course if fell off again the moment it was touched. We couldn't fill the bathroom basin with water as the plug was so old and decayed it wouldn't seal (advised front desk but no action was taken) Paid $40 for scotch fillet steak and chips (room service), asked for well done, it came medium rare. On checking out we let reception know we were disappointed, and let them know why. We were given a 10% discount (reducing the 2 night stay to $165 per night). We'll never stay at an Accor Hotel again. "Once bitten"
