We came to Lyon for the Olympics. My family of 4 had reservations at a different hotel and upon arrival to that hotel realized that it was not as pictured or described and that we wanted to move hotels ASAP (think more like a hostel, threadbare towels, no air conditioning as advertised and dirty). Looking around online I saw that the Hotel Mercure Lyon - Gare Part Dieu had a great reviews, availability, was not completely out of budget and I was happy to be able to secure a room for our family for the remaining night we had in Lyon. We were able to check into the hotel early (at noon) and were so thrilled to arrive to a beautiful (cool) lobby and greeted warmly by the staff. We did not wait but a few minutes for our room and were delighted to walk into a large, clean, well-appointed room. We had a queen bed with fold out sofa and the fold out sofa was already made for us when we arrived. The bathroom was large with a great shower and large counter. The toiletries were of very good quality, the towels were fluffy, the beds were very comfortable. The additional fridge (with a water bottle ready to go), coffee/tea area was a great bonus and there was even a counter with a chair in case you wanted to eat or use a computer (not a desk, but thin counter). One more thing we liked about this room was that the toilet room had a sink in it (so that a person didn't have to leave the room to go to the bathroom to wash their hands). Additional amenities that we were SO thankful for was that there was a water fountain in the lobby where we could fill up our water bottles. It was refrigerated, the water was ice cold and wonderful before and after walks in the summer heat. They even had some pain au chocolates and mini croissants to have as a little treat. There is an attached restaurant and bar as well which we did not use, but the reviews but it looked like a lovely space. The actual hotel has an AMAZING location. It is literally STEPS from the train station in Lyon. We were able to walk out of our hotel room and be in the station less than 2 minutes later. This was wonderful when lugging our suitcases around. It is also great for convenience to grab food and coffee in the station or nearby restaurants. A huge variety is within 5-10 minutes. Last, the most important part of this very long review, is the customer service that I received AFTER my stay. The morning we left was my birthday (so it was great that my husband could take a 5 minutes walk to grab a coffee and pastry ;)). We hopped on a train and as it was starting to depart, I realized that I had ONE AirPod in my case. I had left the other one in my bed at the hotel. Expecting the worst, I sent a message through the website to hotel, explaining that my AirPod was probably lost in those white sheets and if the housekeeping staff found it, was there any way to mail it to me. We have left AirPods, retainers, you name in it, in hotels and AirBnBs and I have never had any luck in getting any answers from the hotel when I have inquired. So you can imagine my surprise and JOY in not only getting an answer, but getting a response that said that HAD found my AirPod and that they would be happy to mail it out to me. After a few more messages and a quick phone call, I was able to pay for the shipping (under 5 Euros, so they didn't even charge me for any time spent on this) and received a tracking number. My AirPod arrived safely at my home in Texas last week. (A HUGE thank you to Romeo, Julianne, Blandine and every other staff member who took the time to get it back to me). This hotel exceeded every expectation I had and blew me away with their care and service.

The hotel is right next to the main train station, very convenient! The staff is friendly and helpful. The room I was assigned to was perfect. Large, comfortable and with a great view. The linens and towels were also top quality. Breakfast was good and it took me two minutes to go to the station. Will certainly stay here again!

Average stay. Rooms could use some updating.

When I booked this hotel on Expedia, it indicated that there was parking available and free parking was included with the booking. I'm not sure whether this is a mistake on Expedia's end or the hotels. The parking is actually public parking nearby and it is not free . The hotel is able to give a 50 percent discount. If you have a large amount of luggage, just be aware that the elevator from the parking does not lead directly to the hotel. You will have to walk a short distance outdoors. Check in experience was quick but my key card did not work on the lift multiple times and had to be reprogrammed twice within less than 12 hours. Room was tired looking. Was supposed to have a king bed but was given two twin beds pushed together. Toilet looked like it could use a good scrub. Shower had good water pressure and temperature. TV was a good size. Breakfast buffet was small but sufficient and the service staff at the buffet were friendly and helpful. Checkout experience was quick. Overall , an average to below average stay for me but was fit for my purpose of stopping for a good night's rest during my road trip.

Amenities are lacking (e.g. slippers, lotion, toothbrush) and needs to be asked from reception/front desk that can be moody based on shift. The front desk manager was needed to fulfill requests. Response to request if you’re not french was “only for privilege members”!

Disappointing, feels cheap even if not

Very disappointed with overall feel of this hotel. Paper cups in bathroom and for tea, special capsules advertised in bathroom not there. Only soap provided for use as shampoo, nothing else. Previous occupants' belongings found in room, not cleared by housekeeping. Only one glass in twin room another requested took 24 hours to arrive. Hole in duvet cover. More teabags and milk jiggers requested, given out like gold dust! Located quite a long way from the Rhone and Lyon Old Town, bus ride required. Very few places to eat nearby except fast food places. Did not feel comfortable on return to hotel in the later evening due to nature of area. Security access to hotel at all times. More suited to an over night stop where sightseeing and nice restaurants not so important. Despite price, a feeling of cheapness. Breakfast ok, but dining area not very well planned so buffet a bit chaotic. Beds comfortable, so not all bad! Would not choose again as a holiday hotel in Lyon.
