The hotel was fine, but not much more. Reception is not open 24 hours and this can be an issue if you come in on a later ferry. The restaurant also closes on the early side, so bear that in mind if arriving on a later ferry. The room itself -- the bed was large and comfortable; the shower pressure was almost non-existent but plenty of hot water; the A/C was really noisy. Parking was very inconvenient to the room -- we had to drag our suitcases through chipped rock. Kangaroo Island hotels seem to be rather expensive and this was moderate for the island. I would stay again if going to Kangaroo Island, but the hotel was not up to usual Mercure standards.

Disappointing restaurant

The gentleman at the reception indicated that compared to six years before (we stayed there already back in 2019) the hotel was upgraded. As a result the restaurant was unattended and the gentleman had to do both the reception and the waiter. We had to pay upfront, at the bar, before sitting down. Food had a real poor choice, especially if compared to six years before and it was prepared with little care, say in a fast food kind of way. The battered fish was ok I suppose, but chips were just lukewarm and the salad soaked in mayonnaise.
