Q S Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

I had an overnight stay at the Mercure Norton Grange Hotel & Spa during a recent business trip. With plenty of parking available, registering my car was straightforward and quick, using a tablet at reception. The check-in experience was great—welcoming and informative. I was provided with all the essential details about restaurant hours, last orders, gym and spa timings, and breakfast options. Entering my room, I was pleased with the overall offer. The room was clean but certainly not spotless. The layout was well thought out, with all the basic amenities you’d expect. The bed was comfortable, and I had a good night's sleep. The air-conditioning worked well, allowing me to keep the room at a comfortable temperature. The bathroom, however, was a bit of a letdown, particularly the shower. It had a short glass shower door with a poor seal, which meant that the bathroom floor ended up as a large puddle every time I used it. Had I stayed more than one night, I would definitely have needed extra towels to keep things dry. The hairdryer in the room was on a fixed, rather short cord—not ideal. I’m not especially tall, but even I had to adjust my stance to use it. In addition, the WiFi in my room (212) was practically non-existent, which was disappointing, especially given the poor mobile reception in the area (both 4G/5G on EE and O2). I also skipped watching the news, as the remote control looked rather filthy. The gym was a highlight, and I was very pleased with my experience. The team at the gym reception were welcoming and accommodating, and although the reception area itself is small, it’s well-kept and pleasant. There’s a fridge where you can buy water, chocolate, and protein bars. The gym itself is excellent for a hotel facility, with a good selection of machines, free weights, and cardio options. The air-conditioning kept it at a comfortable temperature, and a water fountain was available. A towel station would have been a nice touch. The gym hours are 06:30 to 22:00, which is a bit restrictive, but I managed to make it work. Breakfast was a traditional buffet, and I was warmly greeted, seated, and shown around. The selection included local food options, breads, cereals, fruits, and hot food. I was surprised to see only fried eggs rather than scrambled, though I imagine you could request other options. My only suggestion would be for the team to monitor the food more frequently, as some of the fried eggs had become overcooked from sitting on the heat too long. All in all, when I'm back in Manchester on business, I'll certainly consider the Mercure as a solid option.

Lovely Hotel but very disappointed this time

I have stayed at this hotel few times before and on some ocassions it was great and sometimes really bad. This time was the later. The room was clean but the bathroom smelled of damp. This was new. I was staying in the privilege room which was not stocked up to be privileged. I went down to reception and the young lady on duty didnt seem to understand what i was talking about. In the end she bought some stuff up to stock up the room (which was only partially what I was expected). The most important item was the bath robe as I wanted to go to use the spa. Unfortunately the bath robe was stained and smelling of used cooking oil. Like it was left in a kitchen next to deep fry fryer. The night sleep was ok.

I genuinely don't know where to start to review our amazing stay. We pre-booked an overnight Spa package and included the Freddie Mercury tribute party night. We arrived at the spa around 11.30 to be greeted with the friendliest of welcomes on reception, filled out the necessary health forms and lunch menu and was given a brief but ample tour of the facilities. We then went to change and spent a few minutes in the stunning relax room before getting called for our 12 noon treatments. I booked a drift away massage followed by an eyes of the soul facial. I have to give a shout out to my therapist Diane who was skillful and knowledgeable and simply outstanding, I literally could visibly see the results of the facial and my skin as never felt so good, the massage left me feeling invigorated. After our treatments we had our pre-booked bento box lunch which was really nice and then spent time in the pool and using the amazing facilities and just didn't want to leave, but it was time to check in. Once again we were welcomed with a smile and friendly service which was quick and efficient and directed to our room after being given information about breakfast etc. On arrival to our room 224 we were blown away with the size, quality, furnishings, amenities everything was exceptional. The bed was the comfiest we've ever slept in ! We spent sometime in the pick wick bar in the afternoon where the staff were friendly and chatty and nothing was too much trouble. The evening event was the pinnacle, the meal was delicious, plentiful and hot the staff worked tirelessly to get everyone served quickly and it was so good to see management getting stuck in helping the waiters and waitresses and leading by example, this didn't go unnoticed. The tribute to Freddie was brilliant really got into character and had everyone rocking, singing and dancing. We retired to our room quite late and had the best nights sleep, no noise from any other parties that were being held and the room temp was so easily controlled. Breakfast was as good as our evening meal and nice to see locally sourced products, hot, fresh and constantly being topped up. It was time to leave and we checked out already planning our next visit. If I had to dig deep and find anything constructive just to give the review some balance, we had a nespresso coffee machine in our room but only had decaf capsules so would have been nice to have a selection and I think the air con in the public areas was just a tad too cold, but to stress neither impacted our stay in the slightest. I genuinely think this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in in the UK and will definitely be back. One last thing, whoever said men can't multi task haven't met Mohammed !! Thank you Norton Grange we'll see you soon !!

The venue is well located, the food was lovely. My issues are the heat around the hotel, even with the air con on its still warm. Being asked to return to the bar to pay my bill when this was added to the room so I assumed I would pay on departure 2 days later. Reception on my first morning were polite but made a number of mistakes. Other than this I enjoyed my stay.
