Not worth the money….

We where really looking forward to this stay paying £169 for a night stay is a lot so expected a bit of luxury. When we arrived our room was not ready after 2pm considering you have to vacate your room by 12 so you would expect the room to be ready. Next was the room how disappointed where we it was a mix of old and new in a really bad way it did not gel together. And the old furniture was really old and in bad condition. The room had no personality very dull and boring. Bathroom had no extras just minimum towels and 2 glasses Highly disappointed would not recommend.

Disappointing

We had a family room on the third floor. It's called a Family room as it has a bed settee however the room is quite small so it would be cramped if the extra bed was pulled out. The bed was firm, the pillows hard and the sheets prickly. The sash window was broken and would not stay open, so we employed a toilet roll to stop it closing. The air con was ok but too noisy to run overnight. The bedside light turned off when you moved it (electrics) and there were screws missing from inside the bathroom door (not safe). The gym is quite small and we didn't use it as there were a few marines in lifting weights! The pool was big but again the marines were in there. Parking is tight and £15 a night. We live near Exeter and have driven passed this hotel many times. But in summary, the reception is very nice but the hotel is disappointing.

This was a lovely hotel, situated perfectly in the beautiful city of Exeter. Clean room and staff.were okay but maybe an extra smile would be nice. Really nice breakfast with great variety. Really busy breakfast but staffed.coped well always keeping buffet topped up.

Comfy room on 2nd floor. Shower pole came lose, mended within an hour. Great location. On site parking. Breakfast staff lovely. Good quality breakfast food, bacon, sausages & proper bread. Exeter interesting, good pubs! Returning to the feel it had before COVID.

Great Stay, Great Hotel

Returned from a visit on the 6th March, have stayed in Exeter a few times over the last couple of years in various hotels, but never at the Mercure Southgate, always fancied it and it didn't disappoint. Lovely building (well kept) . foyer impressive, Perfect check in check with Jake. Think we got upgraded room was brilliant, lovely soaps, fridge with water and couple of bottles of pop, POD coffee , Gowns (only suggestion coat hook on back of door). Leisure centre was great, staff friendly , helpful and patient with hotel guests and members. other mentions to Kieran on the bar, great service, attentive. Harriet who worked the night shift (lovely) and all the housekeeping staff that consistently do a great job. Thanks for a great stay..
