Check in was easy, offered a free bottle of wine as it was my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. Our room was lovely and we had swans and rose petals on our bed. Only downsides were being refused service at the bar at 10.20pm when it closed at 10.30pm, one of the lights in the seating area in our room didn’t work so I found it very dark trying to style my hair and we didn’t feel the full benefit of the air con due to the shape of our room. All in all a lovely visit. We’ll be back in December. Thank you

The hotel is in a great location just outside the main shopping area, and close to Cardiff Castle, Bute Park, Principality Stadium, and a short bus ride from Cardiff bay. The hotel is generally good however there are signs that some updating wouldn't go a miss, dented, scraped walls, dirty carpets, in main areas, tiles missing on wall of spa pool, by swimming pool. As the hotel is advertised as a 4* in my opinion, these issues should be addressed on a regular basis. The Room we had was a superior room top floor, with views across Cardiff. Unfortunately the windows were so dirty you couldn't clearly see out of them, and when pulling back the curtains for a better look, the windows were in a poor condition. The room was very comfortable lovely bed, had the best sleeps, wish I had a mattress like that at home. Breakfast was very good on 2 out of 3 mornings, loads of choice, but no scrambled eggs, and when I asked one of the chefs if he could do me some, I was looked at as if I was mad, and told, no we only do fried egg. How difficult would it have been for a chef in a 4* hotel to just do a bit of scrambled egg, not exactly difficult ? On our final morning, the coffee urn was cold, the hot water for tea was cold and people were complaining and so a small flask of hot water was provided!!! Again not what you would expect from a 4* hotel, the hot drink machine wasn't working either. In summary generally a nice hotel, pleasant stay, lovely bed, nice room(apart from the windows) some very nice staff, ladies in the bar, reception staff, not so good in spa reception, chef at breakfast, and security (they looked like they hated their job and didn't want to be there), tried a friendly smile/ good morning/night greeting but just ignored. Would consider staying again, but would like to see the issues I highlighted addressed to bring it up to the advertised 4* standard.

Convenient hotel for city shopping. Underground parking available for a fee. Some issues with our room which meant we had to be relocated. Staff very helpful. Breakfast very nice. We ate in the hotel one evening. Food was nice. We did not use the spa, but looked very nice.

Overallo there is something a bit off with this hotel, the services are there but the quality isn't what it should be. The service is mediocre, the breakfast is alwful, the windows to the rooms is dirty, the cleaners are not anywhere near as thorough as other hotels. In fact for something that costs double the price of anoth brand of hotel, I feel very much ripped off and I will be asking for at least a partial refund. We were using this hotel for a city honeymoon and I feel let down that we ended in a hotel that felt like a dodgy B&B. The only redeeming feature of the hotel is the spa, however that is not even run by the hotel so that explains why that part at least was enjoyable!

Stayed in a suite for my daughters birthday and it was beautiful. Went for dinner and the chef made a happy birthday dessert on a plate that was lovely. Staff friendly. Cant wait too book another stay.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a very pleasant, no hassle stay. I do however have a few recommendations of improvements- the gin selection in the bar is a bit disappointing, these days people like to have more craft gins; the number of hooks in the room is not satisfactory ( there should be at least 2 on the door and 2 in the bathroom; there is nowhere to hang your face towel in the bathroom; there should be a mirror at the desk so you can sit and dry your hair (there’s no plug near a mirror); the larger bedside lights didn’t work. My thoughts - was the room designed by a man? Not being sexist but generally females “see” interior design differently and more in a usage way.

Having stayed a few times before we were very much looking forward to a weekend break. We booked an expensive room as it's been a long time since we've been away. Our first impression as we stepped out of the lift on the top(15th) floor was "what a mess"!! There were 3 separate trays of plates all with left over food on them. We kind of let this go as it was just after lunch. However when we returned from our night out close to midnight the same plates were still there. I would say at the best of times this is not acceptable but even more so in the covid world we are currently living in. This is not the first impression any guest should be greeted with particularly when booking one of your most expensive rooms..

The room located high up in the hotel was very nice except the carpets needed cleaning. The view would have been spectacular if the windows had been washed.

I booked the superior room, lovely views of the City and we enjoyed our stay. We were disappointed with the bed as it was meant to be a king size, but it was two singles pushed together. Also the fridge was supposedly meant to have free soft drinks in with the package, but the fridge wasn’t even turned on and smelt disgusting! Spa facilities were lovely.

Checked in at approx 4.30, had made a note in booking that wanted 2 rooms next to each other (also called hotel twice to ensure that they could go this) for daughters 18th, no room together available, said we would wait in the one room until it was sorted, hour later no news so had to accept another room on floor. Hotel needs updating, room ok but dated and no special extras really. Breakfast was ok Went to spa but that felt like it needed an update too, on way out noticed steam room certainly wouldn’t pay £25 to be a day guest there Good location for shopping and eating out Staff friendly

on entering the 'reception' you will be greeted by a sea of bodies, each growing increasingly frustrated when they are told in a matter of fact way that your check in time is delayed. the room was OK, although the bathroom door was stuck and could only be opened or closed by a shoulder shove. despite 3 complaints about this, nothing happened. three broken fingernails later.... still nothing. Breakfast was adequate, think local pub style. If you have an emergency or problem with a room.... good luck. i called reception 17 times and not once was it picked up.

Unfortunately, we had a very eventful and stressful journey taking over 10.5 hours longer than anticipated. Upon our arrival, the staff could not do enough to ensure our check-in and stay was memorable, even upgrading us to a suite. The attention to detail and friendliness of every staff member was beyond expected and we will most definitely stay here again. They really value their customers and the team are a credit to the mercure group.

We stayed at the Mercure, Cardiff a few years ago & decided to revisit for a 3 night stay. We were disappointed with how ‘tired’ the hotel looked, not as we remembered it. Carpets worn in the hallways, paint scrapped or bubbled on doors, grout missing in the bathroom, toilet roll holder loose & toilet seat moved when sat on. Had to ask for more toilet rolls. When we arrived the safe was showing low battery, we called reception 4 times in a 15 minute time span with no answer. We called on our mobile from an outside line & it was answered within the 1st call, no apologies when told that we had tried on the internal line. Maintenance were prompt in changing the battery. Reception was hardly manned & apart from the lovely staff in the breakfast area, we would not have had any friendly contact with the staff. Reception was not welcoming when we arrived. Also had an email a few days before our stay, asking if we would like to have a room upgrade for a small charge & have bubbles in our room on arrival. As it was for a special occasion we decided to take the Mercure up on both offers & had a pop up saying that the staff would look into our requests.. Two days into our stay we received an email saying that this wasn’t possible! Why offer it if not available, they knew when we arriving & departing. Breakfast was good, plenty of choices & again the staff here were very friendly.
