Travel_Girl_Reviews TripAdvisor review

The hotel is currently under external renovation. To be honest, it did not bother us and this is not the reason for my poor review. The renovations are from 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday so if you are out and about, it will be fine. Check in: The check in is now a desk near to the front entry. It does not look like a check in, I thought it was a co-working space. What added to my confusion was a big advert for gin and tonics so I was confused that it was a reception. Check in was swift, no worries there. Room: We booked a family room. The room is tiny, we could not all move around at the same time so had to sit on the bed while my husband and kids moved around. I would say that it is suitable as a family room with children under the age of 6 years old. It was quite unnerving that while we were getting settled in the house keeping charged into the room (with no warning knock) and asked if we were checking out. It was confusing to explain that we were actually checking in! The bathroom is a disgrace. The shower leaks every time because it is so old the seal has gone and clearly it is not a priority for the hotel to fix it, otherwise they would. We went through a mountain of towels each day to keep the bathroom dry. So much for your sustainability initiatives Accor! One morning when walking to the door, an entire decorative panel fell off the wall. No-one was harmed, but that is the level of maintenance that is required. We asked for a lightbulb to be replaced a few times, but it was not replaced for our entire three night stay. There is nowhere to unpack clothes (except for the 3-4 hangers in the wardrobe) so we literally lived out of our suitcases for the four days. Restaurant: This is truly the worst part of the hotel. Truly horrific. We tried to have drinks and snacks one evening and each time we ordered we waited over half an hour for anything to arrive. The place was not busy, if you exclude the person that was vacuuming around us (at 8pm at night) there was nobody there so no idea why it was so hard to provide drinks and snacks. The breakfast is an absolute rip off and is not that great anyway. There are so many lovely places to eat close by that cost less and have nice food. We did not have breakfast in our rate so the reception / front desk told me to just go along and pay at the restaurant. We were greeted and seated in no time, but I literally had the staff member haggling me to pay while I was trying to serve up food for my children. Either ask for money upfront or allow us to pay once we have eaten! I don't appreciate being treated like a criminal. All in all, I don't think that our stay was value for money I am afraid to say. The location is great so it is a shame that the hotel has not been kept up to date by Accor. This sort of decor is years old and if I compare to Novotel in Europe, the UK hotels have been left behind. There is a nice bunch of shops near by if you need Sainsbury's, and other food outlets.

Dear Travel_Girl_Reviews, Many thanks for your comments and feedback. Our most sincere apologies for the circumstances experienced during your stay. We hope that when the time is right, you will give us the opportunity to welcoming you again at Novotel Paddington or one of our sister properties across London. Kind regards, Paulo Bernini - Operations Manager.

My third stay in 2 1/2 years but my first not completely satisfactory visit. As usual the staff are very good but we were put in a room just behind the construction where the window looked onto gravel, tools, some garbage and scaffolding. They did give us a different room but that was inconvenient and the first room should never have been read it out except with a steep discount and certainly not for eight nights. The new room had a chair that was ripped and peeling, removed after two requests but then we had to ask to get a new chair so we could sit down. The pool is very nice, which is one reason I stay here, but the ladies changing room shower had a door that was very peeling at the bottom and then somebody apparently had to break into it because the lock was shattered and the shower closed. When we first got there we had to get someone from the desk to let us into the pool room all the time because the lock didn't work. My friend had to get her key card recoded a few times because it stopped working. The problems were dealt with graciously but really shouldn't have occurred. Why would you leave a ripped up and peeling chair in a guest room? I know they're under construction but after praising this Hotel and booking it with my friend I was somewhat embarrassed. Now on the positive side. The location is extremely convenient and very pleasant I have always felt safe walking in the area and it is very quiet compared to some other areas of London. We are two senior ladies who walked 5 to 10 miles every day all over London. We used the tube a lot as well as the trains to Oxford. Being this close to Paddington station(6 to 10 minute walk) makes it easy to get to most anywhere in the London area. It's also easy to ask the hotel to order a cab. The hotel is close to Regents Canal which makes for interesting walking, quite a few restaurants and sometimes festivals.

HORRIBLE CHECK IN PROCEDURE. SUPER LONG. CONFUSED STAFF.

Good location but mediocre hotel with poor service

Location of the hotel is good when coming from Heathrow. Excellent transport links. Hotel is standard novotel style so nothing special but functional rooms. There are however numerous things that the hotel fails at. Extensive renovations are taking place, this was not notified upon booking (and even now the notice in the app is vague and misleading) and that causes signifcant disturbance throughout the full day. Management is not very helpful on the topic and even when promising to get back on it they do not. In addition to the external renovation the hotel rooms show sign of wear and tear. Bathrooms are worn and we had leaking tap as well as shower door not properly closing (water leaks out on the floor). Oterh than that the rooms are functional and what can be expected from a Novotel. Standard equipment available in room but be aware that the iron is such poor quality it is barely possible to iron anything with it. Breakfast is very poor, not in terms of variety of food but quality is more like Ibis than a Novotel. Would probably not stay again, even when renovations are done as the lack of responsiveness on complaints means that if there are issues these will likely not be managed.

Dear MATHIAS H., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Novotel London Paddington. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. At Novotel, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. May I also take this opportunity to reiterate that in the T&C of all reservations made in this hotel, through out 2024, the following information is displayed and stated in the booking confirmation - Hotel in renovation Structural works on the exterior façade will take place from January 2024 until November 2024. Works are carried out from Monday to Saturday between 09:00 until 17:00. Limited outside view and excessive noise are expected during these working hours.
