A wonderful stay at Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach for our family's first trip to Dubai. The staff were warm and welcoming from our late-night check-in to departure, and they noted our special requests before we even arrived. The hotel itself is clean, well organized, and comfortable, and I liked the overall atmosphere. However, the service was extremely disappointing from the very beginning of my stay.
I had booked two rooms, and the official check-in time was 3:00 PM. I arrived around 2:00 PM and spoke with the receptionist, who told me that the rooms would be ready by 3:00 PM. When I returned at 3:00 PM, however, only one room was ready. I was given the key to that room and told to wait while the second room was being prepared. We ended up waiting for more than an hour after the official check-in time, and only after several phone calls and going back down to reception did we finally receive the key to the second room. This was not a good start to the stay, especially since we had arrived early and were specifically told that the rooms would be ready at 3:00 PM.
Unfortunately, the service continued to be disappointing throughout the stay. This is honestly the first hotel I have stayed at where no one opens the door for guests when entering or leaving. It might sound like a small detail, but these small touches are part of the hospitality experience, especially when you are staying at a hotel to relax and enjoy your time.
The breakfast service was particularly poor. Several times I asked the staff for something and was simply ignored, so I had to ask again. On one occasion, I requested something and a staff member actually told me to go and get it myself from another area. At times, it genuinely felt more like a “serve yourself” system than hotel service. The breakfast itself was also very average and nothing special.
Another thing that really stood out was how much the hotel seems to cut costs on basic guest amenities. There was no toothbrush or toothpaste in the room, and many basic items had to be specifically requested instead of already being provided. For a hotel, this level of cost-cutting felt excessive.
The strangest experience, and something I have genuinely never encountered at any hotel before, was the minibar. When I entered the room and tried to open the refrigerator, I discovered that it was locked with a key. I only needed the refrigerator to keep some of my personal belongings, including medication, cold. When I contacted the hotel, I was told that I either had to pay a deposit to have the refrigerator unlocked or they could remove everything from inside it. Since I had no interest in using anything from the minibar, I asked them to remove everything just so I could use the refrigerator for my own belongings. I found this policy extremely inconvenient and unnecessary.
Overall, the hotel itself is clean, comfortable, and pleasant, but the level of service does not match the quality of the property. From the delayed second room at check-in, to the poor breakfast service, the lack of basic amenities, and even having a locked refrigerator, there were simply too many situations where the hotel seemed focused on cutting costs rather than providing a comfortable guest experience.
A nice room is important, but hospitality is also about making guests feel welcomed, cared for, and able to relax without having to repeatedly ask for basic service. Unfortunately, that part of the experience was seriously lacking here.

Our room was not cleaned to a 5 star standard. For example, only the towels were replaced and beds were made. Only the last few days the toilet was cleaned and the room was some what wiped down. Usually at a 3 star hotel in turkey, everything is cleaned for us top to bottom.
Aside from the cleaning issue, the hotel was otherwise amazing, best location and brilliant food options
