Very professional staff who were most helpful. The food was excellent…delicious and beautifully prepared (loved the scallops!) I stayed 2 nights and the only downside for me was the lack of sufficient lighting and handrails up to my chalet. Being older with mobility issues, I felt quite vulnerable after leaving the buggy and walking up a steep incline to my chalet. When I stay again (and I will) I will request Chalet 42 which is on the flat.

The units under the trees are beautiful. Loved the warm bathroom floor and the view from the deck onto the mamaku. Bed very comfortable. Food good. Great selection for breakfast. Thanks for serving the syrup for the French toast separately. Weird that there is no bread on the dinner menu. The bar menu bread was good. Enjoyed the promptness of the buggies and the back door pick-up for my husband with Parkinson's. The steps to No 1 was scary without handrails. The staff are friendly, chatty and welcoming.

The situation and age of the Puka hotel in Pauanui has its challenges. The Cement road leading to the cabins need some repairs to keep it safer in the dark if clients choose to walk, e.g. loose slab on the edge around 1/2m. There are no handrails on any paths to the cabins. There are no handrails in the bathrooms, in showers or next to toilets. Night lighting is insufficient on the cement road because there are dark patches. There are no automatic lights that come on when one approaches the cabins after dark. There is no lift in the hotel. I saw how this can cause visitor distress. However, the staff are attentive and are happy to offer work-arounds to many of the problems with their buggy service.
