Great staff

Customer review rating 3.0/5

Anonymous Friends - 08/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

The staff was fantastic and very helpful. The hotel is average...the view from our window was a pile of trash...the swimming pool had too much chlorine so kids and parents' eyes were stinging...and very little ventilation...the breakfast menu is fantastic...the dinner menu is limited...the dining room is great for social distancing and this has clearly been well thought out. Covid issues have definitely been well thought out - we asked for champagne to celebrate a job promotion - we got birthday cake and balloons instead..we asked for advice for a restaurant the first night and were sent on a wild goose chase...but other than that, the visit was comfortable.

Fresh, modern hotel with great staff

Really enjoyed our stay - the decor and room is very comfortable, and the pool great. The limited evening menu wasn't the best, but understandble. Also, our room being converted to family room with use of sofa bed left us struggling a bit for space. Overall though, this didn't ruin our stay. The most notable part for us - how great the front desk staff were at all times; and also the morning breakfast staff. It really makes all the difference when people are so accommodating and friendly - particularly to our son, who loved them all!

Awful from the moment we checked in. Ruined our anniversary plans. Will not be back and don’t recommend.

Hotel Staff/Service The service provided by hotel staff was very good. I cannot fault them as they were all pleasant, well mannered and helpful. Public Areas The public areas of the hotel were nicely decorated, comfortable and a pleasure to relax in. Room The room was not great. I stayed with my wife and daughter. We paid extra for an executive room. Other than the sign on the door, there was nothing to indicate to me that this was an executive room. The sofa bed was unpleasant to sleep on. It was rock hard and there were three wide, deep grooves where the bed folded into a sofa. Not a comfortable experience. Luckily I can sleep anywhere so took the sofa bed whilst my daughter shared the big bed with my wife. There was no desk and chair so nowhere for my wife to do her makeup. There was no seat whatsoever other than to perch on the bed. The room was stiflingly hot and we had to open all four windows through the night. These points may seem small but do you know what - I paid a lot of money for this room and it was a disappointment. For the room alone I wish I had booked elsewhere. Breakfast There were changes to the breakfast service under the heading of COVID precautions. This meant though that the breakfast was hugely disappointing. Novotel breakfast is usually a highlight for me but not this time. The toaster didn’t work very well and you had to get your bread with your cooked breakfast. By the time the bread had been in the toaster the breakfast had gone cold. There was no cheese or cold cuts and the selection of fruit was very limited. The orange juice was from a really poor concentrate. The effort to minimise numbers in the breakfast room caused a big queue at the hot breakfast station. Leisure Facilities We used the pool on both days. My daughter has special needs and loves to swim. I was really happy with the pool and so was she. The system the hotel had in place to restrict numbers worked well. Although this meant we had to plan ahead rather than go with the flow, it was a really fair trade off to ensure safety.

Waste of Time and Money

Arrived to check in and room was 3 hours delayed. Had to cancel special dinner plans as we had missed them and ended up eating take away fast food!! Pool slot was given for 10pm and when the time came we discovered the pool was closed and the jacuzzi was full of children. A waste of time and money on a trip i was looking forward to!! I want my money back

Overcrowded and ill-prepared

This is a well located hotel which was let down by its poor preparation in light of covid. The hotel was far too busy - social distancing was non existent and staff seemed indifferent. Breakfast time had to be booked - fair enough - but pointless - as we arrived on time to find the place was full to overflowing with people, long queues for food and very poor hygiene standards - no hand gel at the buffet, and access for all to finger the fruit and cereals. There was no room service available 'due to covid' (what is that supposed to mean? Surely better if they can keep some of the crowd away from the breakfast bar ??). I like the novotel brand but this place is hopeless. Falls well below the standard expected.

Great location, good value family room.

Initially we were very disappointed with the booking system for the pool but staff went above and beyond to give us access to the pool. The family room had everything we needed, the children appreciated the size of the tv and the bed was spacious and comfortable. As the sofa bed was for 2 children, 2 single duvets would have been better than one big one. Lovely breakfast, the layout was disjointed with the juice being amongst the food and the bread being behind the counter but the toaster being beside the cereal, on a different counter. This meant additional unnecessary queuing.

Stayed in executive room which was very comfortable, and modern. Hotel was situated a little further away from the centre than expected but Grass Market Area made a nice change to eat and drink out. Perhaps introduce an early/late adults only time for the swimming pool use? Every time we went to use it, it was understandably busy with children, but with Covid concerns an adults only time slot would help allay any nervousness from elderly guests. Paper cups for hot/cold drinks at breakfast was not expected. I am pleased that staff were obliging and changed to glass/pot. All staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks for a nice stay.

Our stay was delayed due to covid so we were relieved to be there at all, but the staff were really friendly and the room was great. Excellent location. Pity the car park was full, however the reduced rate at Castle Terrace was a nice touch.

Overall, I was pleased with the hotel. However, the drain in the shower was blocked which led to it overflowing. I tried to call reception, but there was no answer. We had to use the towels in the room to dry this up as much as possible, but still it was inconvenient.

To far out from the town centre

We have been staying at Accor hotels for over 30 years and this was one of the most pleasant stays in all that time. The staff were superb & extremely friendly. Our room was also very good and we cannot fault the location.

Toilet facilities in the room lacking

For some reason toilet is separate from rest of bathroom. The toilet was in. Cramped cupboard with no hand washing facilities, bin or cleaning tools in it. You had to walk out we dirty hands all the way to the bathroom in order to clean. Rooms was for 4 people but sofa bed was way to small for two people.

Good sizable. Though is a well located hotel there are some issues to be captured: -Limited response during these times of COVID. Not feeling safe at breakfast or dinner. No 2m separation respected since i believe that the hotel was fully booked - very limited breakfast options - very limited dinner options - crowded at swimming pool with a very strong smell of clor

Worst service we ever received

Nicola M. Couples - 01/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Awful from the start. When we booked we asked for an early check in we were told this would be £40 we accepted travel all the way there to be told we can't check in until 2pm. They take our luggage but we're not really dressed to go anywhere. We get to our room with we paid for an executive room with a castle view with it being our anniversary low and behold no castle in sight only the art academy. We message reception like they told us to do and still waiting on a response

Our stay was excellent with wonderful service from the reception team and breakfast chef. The reception smelt absolutely gorgeous, such a nice touch when entering the hotel. Great Covid procedures in place with clear signage. Thank you, Lisa and Tam Watson
