ibis Sheffield City Hotel 3 stars

It was mainly the arrival. After waiting 12 months to see family, check in was delayed as not ready, after nearly 1hr was given keys for 304, got to room, told error it’s 305.... receptionist let us in, we had to literally dump luggage as late for family meal. On returning back late afternoon our keys wouldn’t work headed back to reception to be told “ah yes here’s 305 keys” this should have been sorted earlier on initial error of rooms? Eventually getting into room, went to the toilet and no loo roll! So embarrassed as with my son who wouldn’t go ask for any as a nervous shy child so ended up using cotton wool!!! Then jumped in the shower to find soap dispenser empty... towels all bitty sticking to your skin. Went BACK to reception who then passed 1 loo roll to me near the bar area where people were drinking saying was 1 enough? ... and more bobbly towels.. got back to room no tea/ coffee there just a kettle, I wasn’t going back down as so flustered and embarrassed so rang reception from my mobile, and asked them to bring it up... made a cuppa trying to calm down and we couldn’t find TV remote. My son worked it from the back which was difficult as wall mounted, to find the day after it was under the middle of the twin beds. A member of staff did apologise, and explained they had a new house keeper but it wasn’t the experience you needed after waiting a year to travel away from your house to see your parents who had been isolating through nearly all this pandemic. Sorry but really d. experience.

Initially, I was disappointed because I arrived before 2pm and I was told i could not check in until 2pm. Besides that, I had a fulfilling experience.

The staff were really helpful and considerate, making the most of what is a difficult phase, returning to Covid ‘normal’ keeping to all the rules of safety while maintaining a hospitable and friendly welcome.

Extremely efficient and staff lovely

The room was basic with no cleaning done over our 4 day stay. Basic amenities such as coffee/tea wasn't available and the two paper cups were not replenished. The bathroom floor wasn't very clean upon check-in. And, finally, the room had no actual storage (with any semblance of any storage provided by 5 coat hangers).

I will certainly recommend IBIS hotels to friends and colleagues. I thought the pricing was very reasonable considering the good quality of the rooms and the central location. I will say however, I would advise you strongly to include some basic toiletries like soap and shampoo. My only complaint was that due to plumbing issues, the bathroom intermittently emanated a very unpleasant smell. Otherwise Ienjoyed my stay tremendously. Thanks.

Short business trip. Booked Ibis because I am a frequent ALL guest, but I was not particularly impressed.

Another great stay, although short due to the restrictions/rules of been in tier 3 but at least I was able to see my son for Christmas. The staff were friendly and very helpful as they always are. The room was clean and tidy.

Had a medical issue which the staff dealt with very well. Good hotel for Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Restaurant had a wide menu at good prices. Staff courteous and attentive. Would stay here again.

I stay in Ibis hotels fairly regularly because they're great value for the level of comfort and service provided. My stay on this occasion was just as expected with a slight blip at check in, when I had to show my confirmation email to prove that breakfast was included with my room. The young lady dealing with it was friendly and effiicient but it was annoying to have to do that at the end of a 4 hour train trip and I just wanted to get to my room.

This stay was for my 3 monthly visit to Sheffield for a voluntary society meeting. As before I enjoyed my stay at this Ibis, but it w as my first 3 night stay because I wished to do some travelling around. The hotel has a youthful atmosphere, which I enjoy, even though I was much older than many of the other guests.
