AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!

They claim to be a 4-star hotel but definitely not! My husband and I mistakenly chose this hotel for our 10th year wedding anniversary. Checked in the room and nothing special prepared for us. Asked for extra water bottles and nope, only 2 per day. Fell sick today and ordered Uber eats for food delivery, apparently we need to go all the way to the gate/barrier entry, it's 10 min walk from the hotel given the rain. Borrowed umbrella and they don't have any. Far from the city, nothing around and need to drive. Apart from the view, nothing else is good. Room very basic, instant coffee and kettle provided, hot shower - something I can get from a 3 star hotel, not up to standards, far from it!

Hotel of a million inconveniences

My wife and I endured our stay at the Mercure. It was anything but the romantic holiday we were hoping for. The hotel is understaffed and simple requests such as wine glasses and cutlery to be sent to our room were denied. Below the hotel is a showground with carnival rides. The noise is loud and constant. The location is very inconvenient, there is no shuttle service into town and you either have to get a taxi or ride the funicular. You have to pay for the funicular and there is often a long queue to use it. The walk down the hill takes about 30 minutes. All the restaurants and shops are on the other side of town. It will take you 30-40 minutes to walk there from the base of the funicular (note: I’m a fast walker). The room is comfortable enough but the air conditioning didn’t work in our room. No point complaining though because reception rarely answers the phone. The pool isn’t open in May. This was disappointing as we were hoping to relax poolside. The door to the roof is also locked so you can’t enjoy that space either. View was nice but not worth it.

Disgusting property, don’t ever recommend

Great location, cannot fault that. Booked a triple room. Got in room, found it was still set up for two. Blood stains on bed cover, human hairs in bathroom. Went to reception and house keeping resolved. Subsequently found broken drawer and window was broken, reported to reception, never fixed during our stay, reception completely indifferent. In the process of denouncing. Awful WIFI, almost impossible to work

Very disappointed with the facilities.

It’s very sad to state that my experience was very disappointing knowing it’s a 5-star hotel. The aircon was not at all working and when enquired we got to know that it was turned off the day before due to winter season. A 21 degree winter should have a back up, I believe. No doubt the location was great and the views were breathtaking. But everything was undone by the facilities. Was expecting an electric kettle atleast but even that wasn’t there. Only a coffee machine that could not supply hot water for tea. Had to go to the reception all the time for hot water.

Great view

Great view! The breakfast is a way too expensive for its quality. It is a very poor breakfast. One of the girls at the reception was focused on sailing the restaurant that she was not very honest about other options in town that are great, as we discovered later.
