Hotel Mondial am Dom Cologne MGallery 4.5 stars

Another very pleasant stay. The rooms are fine, the staff very helpful, the breakfast tasty, the position exceptionally convenient for, say, the Christmas Markets, the cathedral, the concert hall, the Modern Art museum, the Classical museum (presently closed) restaurants, and so on. (It’s very near the station, but given several recent bad experiences, which are not apparently unusual, we sadly cannot recommend that anyone travels to Cologne by train. DB is in a state of calamitous decline.)

If you are going to g to Cologne for the Christmas markets, this is the hotel to use. It is a stones throw from the main Christmas market located at the Cathedral and the excellent Christmas markets in the Old Town, furthermore it is very close to the banks of the river Rhine, the main train station and about a 15 minute walk to the Chocolate Museum. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was perfect for our needs, a comfortable bed, an excellent shower room and strong room safe. Housekeeping cleaned the room, remade the bed and restocked the room everyday. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice to suit everyone. There is a restaurant onsite as well as a small wine bar. Overall it is a very good and brilliantly located hotel to stay at when visiting Cologne.

The hotel is well located. The rooms are small however comfortable and nicely decorated. The bed along with the bedsheets provided was of a high class. Unfortunately, from day one the water temperature in the shower was flactuating, changing from warm to very hot, burning my skin a few times. Also, the toilet cistern/flushing system was faulty, either leaking the water into the toilet bowl constantly or it was making a weird, growling sound when getting refilled. The above issues were repored to the reception and I was oferred to be moved to a room next door. However, due to a large amount of lugagge (already unpacked) and a very limited time, I stayed in the room and coped with the problems throughout the stay. Also, as a Gold member I received absolutely nothing other than a welcome drink. Quite disappointing, yet not a huge deal.

Lovely modern and comfortable room located close to the Dom and train station. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful.
